Telugu cinema is on a roll when it comes to experimenting with larger-than-life spectacles, and Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni, is the latest example. Blending mythology, superhero-style action, and grand fantasy elements, the film offers a unique mix of history and modernity. Starring Teja Sajja, Manchu Manoj, Shriya Saran, Ritika Nayak, Jayaram, and Jagapathi Babu, Mirai takes audiences on a mythical journey filled with action, emotion, and dazzling visuals. With a runtime that packs in breathtaking set pieces, strong performances, and some goosebump-inducing moments, Mirai aims to be a wholesome theatrical experience.
Mirai Story
The story of Mirai takes root in ancient times when Emperor Ashoka, shattered by the devastation of war, entrusted nine powerful granthas (sacred books) to loyal guardians. These books contained the secret to immortality. Centuries later, Mahabir Lama (Manchu Manoj), a ruthless warrior known as The Black Sword, seeks to claim all nine books and rule the world.
In the year 2000, Ambica (Shriya Saran), protector of the ninth book, foresees Mahabir’s rise and makes a painful sacrifice by leaving her newborn son Vedha (Teja Sajja). Years later, Vedha, an orphan unaware of his destiny, is thrust into a cosmic battle where his identity as the chosen savior is revealed. As Mahabir races to unite the nine granthas, Vedha must embrace his destiny, fight for dharma, and unlock the ultimate mystery — what is Mirai? A mere book, or something far more divine?
Mirai Movie Review
Director Karthik Gattamneni deserves applause for his ambitious vision. His direction seamlessly merges mythological elements with modern storytelling, resulting in a fantasy adventure that feels grand and relatable at the same time. From weaving Ramayana references to designing breathtaking action blocks, the narrative stays engaging.
The first half, however, falters with a few pacing issues. Forced comedy sequences, especially the cop chase subplot, feel unnecessary and dilute the impact of the serious narrative. Once the film finds its footing, the pre-interval block grips you tightly and sets the stage for a rousing second half.
The second half shines brighter, offering unpredictable twists, thrilling action, and mythological grandeur. The climax, though engaging, feels slightly tame compared to the build-up. A more hard-hitting finish could have elevated the film to greater heights. Still, the breathtaking VFX, spectacular action, and mythic flourishes like the Sampati bird sequence and Lord Rama’s divine appearance make Mirai a visual treat.
On the technical front, Gowra Hari’s thundering background score is the heartbeat of the film, lifting several sequences to goosebump-inducing levels. The VFX and cinematography shine bright, proving that even on a modest budget, Telugu cinema can compete with larger productions.
Mirai Movie Performances
Teja Sajja carries the film effortlessly. After Hanu-Man, he proves once again that he is here to stay. His transformation from a carefree youth to a determined warrior feels natural and magnetic. This performance stands tall as one of his finest.
Manchu Manoj is menacing and powerful as Mahabir Lama. His fiery eyes, booming voice, and screen presence ensure he dominates every frame he appears in. His comeback is nothing short of spectacular.
Shriya Saran is a delightful surprise. Far from being sidelined, she gets solid screen time and adds emotional gravitas to the story with her grace and intensity.
Ritika Nayak as Vibha is decent but underutilized. Her character could have been fleshed out more, especially in the second half.
Among the supporting cast, Jagapathi Babu, Jayaram, and Getup Srinu make their mark, with Srinu offering comic relief even if the placement of comedy feels forced.
Final Verdict
On the whole, Mirai is an ambitious fantasy spectacle that merges mythology, action, and emotions into a grand visual experience. Teja Sajja impresses as Vedha, Manchu Manoj makes a thunderous comeback, and Shriya Saran adds soul to the narrative. Combined with Karthik Gattamneni’s vision, electrifying music, mythological depth, technical brilliance and polished VFX, Mirai stands tall as a must-watch theatrical experience for lovers of fantasy adventures.
