Thama Teaser Review: Ayushmann Khurrana And Rashmika Mandanna’s Bloody Love Story Promises Horror, Romance, And Thrills

Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films has unveiled a glimpse of its upcoming film in the horror universe, Thama. ‘The World Of Thama’ has been highlighted as the first love story in Maddock Films’ Horror Comedy Universe.  Ayushmann Khurrana is finally back on the big screen after two years, and as usual, he is up for something new and different. The actor, known for his experimental choices, takes a daring leap with Thama, a horror-comedy that promises to be unlike anything Indian audiences have seen before.

The teaser of Thama, unveiled on Tuesday, sets the tone for what the makers call their “first-ever love story” in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe — the same world that gave us Stree, Munjya, Bhediya, and Stree 2. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar (Munjya fame), the film features an ensemble cast including Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Faisal Malik, and Geeta Agrawal.

Thama is already making noise, thanks to its intriguing mix of horror, folklore, romance, and dark humor. And if the teaser is anything to go by, audiences are in for a bloody yet emotional ride this Diwali.

Thama Teaser: A Bloody Love Story With A Twist

The teaser begins with Ayushmann’s voice-over, where he tenderly talks to Rashmika Mandanna’s character. The visuals cut to a gripping scene showing Rashmika cradling a bruised and wounded Ayushmann as they hang precariously from a building. But here’s where things turn supernatural — Rashmika, dressed in a traditional avatar, carries a goddess-like presence, giving us chills with her mystical aura.

The teaser then pulls us deeper into the chilling world of Thama. Strange creatures leap from trees, a goddess slays a rakshas, and a man is shown drinking blood — all teasing a narrative that is as haunting as it is fascinating. Much like Stree and Munjya, the film seems to blend Indian folklore with modern storytelling, but this time with romance at its very core.

Ayushmann Khurrana plays a historian who sets out to trace the mythological roots of vampirism in Indian folklore. This unique role not only challenges him as a performer but also marks a refreshing return for the actor after a significant gap. Rashmika Mandanna, on the other hand, looks stunning as the mysterious love interest who appears to be caught between the human and supernatural worlds.

The teaser also gives a glimpse of a dance number featuring Ayushmann and Rashmika, promising that Maddock’s signature entertainment value remains intact amidst all the horror and thrills. Adding to the surprise element, Malaika Arora makes a special appearance in a dance number, upping the glamour quotient.

A Powerful Ensemble Cast

If Ayushmann and Rashmika weren’t enough to raise curiosity, Thama also ropes in some of the industry’s most versatile actors. Nawazuddin Siddiqui steals the final moment of the teaser, appearing as a vampire character with his trademark humor, jokingly requesting the teaser to continue because he hasn’t “seen a love story in 75 years.” Paresh Rawal, Faisal Malik (Prahlad Cha of Panchayat), and Geeta Agrawal round off the stellar cast, adding more layers to the narrative.

A Visual And Musical Treat

With cinematography that looks rich and atmospheric, the teaser of Thama establishes an eerie yet grand setting. The spooky visuals, folklore-inspired imagery, and lavish production design suggest that this film is aiming for a cinematic spectacle. Adding to the mood, the background score by Sachin-Jigar gives chills and keeps the tension alive throughout.
