The evolution of Indian Television started in the 90's. Many channels started and slowly from Doordarshan we move towards disc and cable. The Era of 90’s was a golden era for Indian Television and TV shows. It was an era before the demographic-specific Saas Bahu serials had hit the market. Kids and adults who grew up during this golden era will surely remember the fun times and nail-biting anxiety we had waiting to watch these TV shows! Let us make you feel nostalgic by taking a trip to the famous 90's TV shows. 1. Hum Paanch [caption id="attachment_1460" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Anyone who sees the name ‘Hum Paanch’ will remember that it was without a doubt, one of the funniest TV shows of the time. A family of 5 disordered children with a dead wife talking from a portrait to another nagging one, Hum Paanch surely gave us good laughs! 2. Dekh Bhai Dekh [caption id="attachment_1388" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Dekh Bhai Dekh is definitely one of the most memorable sitcoms of the 90s! A true classic starring Shekhar Suman, Farida Jalal, and Navin Nischol. 3. Just Mohabbat [caption id="attachment_1389" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Just Mohabbat is a sweet and wholesome show about Jai, a young boy coming of age. It suits to say Just Mohabbat is the Indian equivalent of the American show ‘The Wonder Years’. Jai and Gautam, his imaginary friend used to fascinate all of us! 4. Chandrakanta [caption id="attachment_1636" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Chandrakanta brings back amazing memories to us! Being one of the most prominent fantasies TV shows at the time, all the characters had us hooked, even the title song did! 5. Malgudi Days [caption id="attachment_1391" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Of course, everyone has at least heard about RK Narayan’s famous work, if not seen or read it. Malgudi days was what made the 90’s kids run to their TVs and tune right in time and watch the whole family see the show with them! 6. Hip Hip Hurray [caption id="attachment_1392" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Even the Indian TV network had a Highschool Teenager drama show that all secondary school teens could relate to! Hip Hip Hurray was one show that gave young adolescents an idea of life and higher education. 7. Chitrahaar [caption id="attachment_1393" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Chitrahaar was your average song broadcasting show but it was a whole different level of ecstasy to get your pick or favorite song played on TV back in the 90s! 8. Office Office [caption id="attachment_1394" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Office Office was so well done and received so many hits, the only next logical step was to make a movie adaptation! Office Office was one 90’s TV show that was absolutely worth every second. 9. Surabhi [caption id="attachment_1395" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Talk about a show that broke records. Surabhi not only made young adults and children develop an interest in art and culture but also got its place in the Limca Book of Records for having the largest measured audience response in Indian TV History! 10. Alif Laila [caption id="attachment_1396" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Alif Laila has to be one of our personal favorites. It is an adaptation of the famous ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ that includes the adventures of Sinbad, Alladin and Ali Baba. 11. Rangoli [caption id="attachment_1397" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Rangoli was one weekend show no one wanted to miss. Some of us stayed up late to just watch this air! 12. Byomkesh Bakshi [caption id="attachment_1398" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Out of the treasure trove of 90’s TV Shows, one gem was the detective and investigation series, Byomkesh Bakshi. You could agree that he was our Sherlock Holmes! 13. Flop Show [caption id="attachment_1399" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Jaspal Bhatti should be the creator of Stand-Up comedy rightly so! In the 90’s he was our stand-up comedian and the Flow Show was our go-to comedy show to roll down laughing at! 14. Vikram Aur Betaal [caption id="attachment_1400" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Vikram Aur Betaal is a well known Indian classic all of us had heard or read about. The 90’s brought it to life with its own TV show! The chills and the eerie nature of the folklore are all so amazingly captured in this one, including the memories! 15. Shaktimaan [caption id="attachment_1637" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Who could forget Shaktimaan! He was the Indian Superman and as kids, no one can deny, we really looked up to him. Some of us even made or bought his Shaktimaan costume too! 16. Tehkikaat [caption id="attachment_1402" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Why stop with one iconic detective series? Add one more! Right beside Bakshi, we had Sam D’Silve in Tehkikaat. There was no scarcity of mysterious crimes to solve and investigations to be had! 17. Raja Aur Rancho [caption id="attachment_1403" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Raja Aur Rancho is yet, another gem of a detective and investigation series. What gives it the place of the best? The detective’s sidekick. In case you didn’t know, the sidekick is a monkey! Good times! 18. Mahabharat [caption id="attachment_1638" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] The absolute best of religious TV series in the 90’s TV networks have to be, without a doubt, Mahabharat. No one can forget how the story was retold in the Mahabharat and without saying, no one can forget the memorable title song either! 19. Captain Vyom [caption id="attachment_1405" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Captain Vyom besides being a nostalgic Sci-Fi TV series, was also eye-candy at its best! With an incredibly good looking cast – Dino Morea, Madhu Sapre, Nethra Raghuraman, and Milind Soman, this will be one series we won’t forget! 20. Shriman Shrimati [caption id="attachment_1406" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Out of several comedy-dramas in the ’90s, Shriman Shrimati was one of the best with its unconventional humor and drama. It was a family entertainer. 21. Zee Horror Show [caption id="attachment_1639" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] No one can forget the Zee Horror Show even if we wanted to! It was definitely one of the most hair-raising and chilling series on TV back in the 90s. 22. Boogie Woogie [caption id="attachment_1408" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Boogie Woogie was the mother of all Indian reality Dance Shows! With stars like Ravi Behl, Naved and Javed Jaffrey, this one was a sure-fire entertainer back in the day. 23. Antakshari [caption id="attachment_1409" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Yet another reality tv show that had us on the edge of our seats! Antakshari was the go-to musical competition show. 24. The Zu Mountain Saga [caption id="attachment_1410" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] The ’90s had no less of its fair share of fantasy series. The Zu Mountain Saga is one of the gems of the genre in the ’90s that revolved around the classic good vs. Evil. 25. Ramayan Of Ramanand Sagar [caption id="attachment_1640" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Alongside Mahabharat, Ramayan was another Indian epic that was adapted to a TV series that the entire family anticipated to watch and even rediscover many things from. That was our list of 25 nostalgic ’90s shows that we fondly remember. These shows undoubtedly will live in our memories so will all the sitcom drama, flashy fantasy scenes and catchy title songs that we can hum to even today!
