Marvel Studios has given fans another reason to revisit Avengers: Endgame. The theatrical re-release, titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, comes with around five minutes of previously unseen footage spread across four new scenes. These additions do more than extend the ending of the 2019 blockbuster. They introduce Loki, Doctor Doom, Bruce Banner and the TVA while quietly connecting Endgame to the larger story that will unfold in Avengers: Doomsday.
The new footage also answers a few questions that have remained open since Endgame. From Steve Rogers’ alternate timeline to the growing multiversal crisis, each scene adds another piece to the puzzle.
Loki Arrives At Steve And Peggy’s Home
The first new sequence extends the ending between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. In the original Endgame, Steve finally gets the life he always wanted with Peggy after returning the Infinity Stones and choosing to remain in the past. The film ended with their much-awaited dance and kiss.
The new footage continues that moment. Steve and Peggy are now at home when someone knocks on the door. Steve immediately hides behind a wall while Peggy goes to answer it. The visitor turns out to be Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, and he is wearing a Time Variance Authority uniform.
Peggy does not recognise him. Loki then tells her, “No, but I can help you. Both of you.” Steve eventually steps out from behind the wall and is clearly surprised to see him.
This is not the Loki who was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. The scene features the 2012 version of Loki who escaped with the Tesseract during the events of Endgame. He was subsequently taken by the TVA and eventually became the God of Stories, overseeing the multiverse.
His appearance at Steve and Peggy’s home raises an important question. Has the alternate timeline created by Steve’s decision to stay in the past now become significant enough for Loki and the TVA to intervene?
The footage has also been connected to reports about Steve, Peggy and their family being transferred to Earth-8282. However, the new scene itself does not fully explain what role that reality will play in Doomsday.
Doctor Doom Comes For Bruce Banner In Avengers Endgame
The first post-credits scene moves the story forward following the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Bruce Banner is hiding inside a bunker deep underground and is recording a video diary.
Bruce reveals that he has experienced his first “incident” in more than ten years. This refers to the time he spent with Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Concerned that the Hulk could take over again, Bruce has isolated himself and is working on a gamma-suppression serum.
Things suddenly take a dramatic turn when the lights begin flickering and a green glow appears. Doctor Doom’s voice is then heard saying, “Mr. Banner.”
Bruce asks why Doom is there. Doom simply replies, “I’m here to collect you.”
The scene then cuts to darkness as Hulk roars. When the camera moves towards the ground, a glowing green sigil is visible. Bruce and Doom are gone.
The sequence immediately raises questions about Bruce’s role in Doomsday. Mark Ruffalo was not included in the original cast announcement for the film, so this scene could potentially explain his absence. It could also mean that Doom has captured Bruce for reasons that remain unknown.
The glowing symbol is another intriguing detail. It suggests that Doom may have access to powerful forms of multiversal transportation.
The TVA Discovers A Massive Multiversal Crisis
The second post-credits scene takes viewers back to the TVA. Miss Minutes appears in a standard TVA welcome message and warns visitors to “stay in your universe, so that we need not hunt you down like a dog.”
The scene then shifts to Mobius, Ouroboros and Casey inside the TVA’s control room. They are monitoring the multiverse when their screens suddenly show two universes moving towards a collision. Missiles are being fired between them, and one of the universes is identified as Earth-10005, the home of the Fox X-Men universe.
The situation becomes even bigger when the TVA discovers that the same thing is happening across the multiverse. According to the footage, 3,000 universes are being invaded at the same time.
This provides a clearer idea of the scale of the crisis that could drive Avengers: Doomsday. The film is already expected to bring together characters from different Marvel universes, including members of the X-Men.
Professor Xavier, Magneto, Cyclops, Mystique, Nightcrawler and Gambit have already been confirmed for the film. However, the TVA sequence does not reveal exactly how those characters will become involved.
The number 3,000 has also caught attention because of its connection to Tony Stark’s famous “I love you 3,000” line from Endgame. Whether that is intentional or simply a coincidence remains unclear.
Doctor Doom Forges His Mask
The final new sequence focuses entirely on Doctor Doom. The scene shows him crafting his iconic metal mask, hammering it into shape on an anvil.
The sound of the hammering is particularly significant. It echoes the metallic sound associated with Tony Stark building his first Iron Man suit in Iron Man. Since Robert Downey Jr. now plays Doctor Doom, the sequence creates a deliberate visual and audio parallel between Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom.
However, the scene does not establish that Doom and Tony are the same person or different versions of the same individual. Instead, it creates a contrast between two characters played by the same actor.
Tony used his engineering abilities to create armour that ultimately helped save the universe. Doom is now using his own skills to forge the mask associated with one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains.
How The New Scenes Set Up Avengers: Doomsday
Taken together, the four scenes establish several important threads for Avengers: Doomsday. Loki’s appearance suggests that Steve and Peggy’s alternate timeline could have become important to the wider multiverse.
Doctor Doom’s visit to Bruce Banner shows that he is already taking action before the main events of Doomsday unfold. Exactly why he wants Bruce remains one of the biggest unanswered questions.
Then there is the multiversal crisis discovered by the TVA. With thousands of universes under attack, the stage is set for characters from different realities to cross paths. The bigger question is what happens when the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men finally come together. Anthony Russo explained why the new footage was added, telling Marvel,
“Audiences are coming to Avengers: Doomsday with a lot of emotional connection to their previous experiences in the MCU. We want to respect that and find out how we can make use of that value and that emotional commitment in order to move forward”.
Avengers: Doomsday Release Date
Avengers: Endgame Encore released in Indian theatres on September 25 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The new footage gives fans additional clues about where the MCU is heading next.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18, with screenings planned across premium formats including IMAX, 4DX, MX4D, SCREENX and Dolby Vision. The new Endgame scenes have now added another layer of mystery to the road ahead.
