It wasn’t a blockbuster at the box office, but over the years, it earned cult status thanks to its emotional storytelling, memorable music and one of Emraan Hashmi’s finest performances as Shivam Pandit. Now, after nearly two decades, one of Bollywood’s most loved characters is finally making a comeback with Awarapan 2.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 reunites audiences with a much older, battle-scarred Shivam Pandit. The first trailer, released on August 6, doesn’t try to explain everything. One sequence particularly stands out. Shivam is seen surrounded by monks as they tend to his wounds before he begins walking alongside them. The trailer never explains why he is there or how this moment connects to the larger narrative. Instead of providing answers, it keeps building intrigue. The closing moments continue the same approach. Rather than revealing the central conflict, the trailer ends with Shivam delivering a powerful warning. “Ek-ek karke maroge ya sab saath mein?”
It is a whistle-worthy finish that leaves audiences wanting more without giving away the film’s biggest surprises.

If there is one thing that instantly transports viewers back to the original film, it is the music. Just like Awarapan (2007), music remains one of the sequel’s greatest strengths. The trailer beautifully uses Tera Mera Rishta in the background, allowing nostalgia to take over even during intense action sequences. Instead of treating music as a background element, the trailer makes it an emotional bridge between the original film and its sequel.
The songs released so far, including Ve Junoon and Yeh Awarapan, have already generated positive responses from fans. The action also looks far more brutal than before. Gunfights, hand-to-hand combat and several bloody confrontations hint at a darker and more violent film. Visually, the cinematography creates a gritty atmosphere that suits the franchise perfectly.
Another major positive is the trailer’s decision not to reveal its biggest twists. In an era where trailers often give away entire plots, Awarapan 2 chooses restraint. That deserves appreciation.
At the same time, the trailer perhaps hides a little too much. After watching it, audiences understand Shivam’s emotional state, but they still know very little about the actual story. Who exactly is Nafisa? What drives Shivam back into this violent world? How does Zara fit into his journey? The trailer leaves almost every major question unanswered.

That mystery certainly builds curiosity, but it also prevents viewers from fully understanding the stakes. Another surprising decision is the runtime. At just 1 minute and 25 seconds, the trailer is shorter than the teaser itself. While brevity isn’t necessarily a problem, one can’t help but feel that another 20 or 30 seconds of storytelling could have provided slightly better context without revealing too much.
Final Thoughts
The Awarapan 2 trailer successfully revives one of Bollywood’s most loved cult characters. Emraan Hashmi returns as Shivam Pandit with remarkable ease, making it feel as though he never left the role. The action looks stylish, the emotions remain intact, and the music once again reminds audiences why the original film continues to enjoy such a loyal fan following.
At the same time, the trailer remains extremely guarded about its story. That could prove to be its biggest strength if the mystery pays off on the big screen. Or it could leave some viewers wishing they had learned a little more before buying a ticket.
One thing, however, is certain. After 19 years, Shivam Pandit is back. And judging purely by this trailer, his journey is far from over. The makers have chosen mystery over exposition, trusting Emraan Hashmi’s screen presence and the franchise’s emotional legacy to carry the excitement.
