Acting and directing, though similar in some ways, are completely diverse. Some actors directed films, but it takes great effort, talent and a different kind of perspective to get behind the lens and see what looks best. He made his mark in Bollywood with movies like Nishant, Aakrosh, Sparsh, Mirch Masala, Ardh Satya, Katha, A Wednesday, and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and directed his first movie Yun Hota To Kya Hota in 2006. 3. Guru Dutt: Kaagaz Ke Phool [caption id="attachment_1846" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] A man ahead of his time, Guru Dutt was a multitalented person who was not only an actor and a director but was a producer too. He led the Golden Age of Cinema by acting in various classics like Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Chaudhvin Ka Chand. He also directed movies which include Kaagaz Ke Phool, Chaudhvin Ka Chand and Pyaasa. 4. Farhan Akhtar: Dil Chahta Hai [caption id="attachment_1845" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Farhan Akhtar has a very long list of his achievements. He is a writer, Director, Actor, Singer, Songwriter and UN Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia. Out of all his movies and performances, as an actor, he will be always remembered for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Rock On and, Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara. However, as a director, Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya, and Don, will always be the flicks we see again to reinstitute our faith in Indian Cinema. 5. Anupam Kher: Om Jai Jagdish [caption id="attachment_1844" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Anupam Kher is not only an evergreen actor but also a director and producer. His directorial debut was by the multi-starer Om Jai Jagdish in 2002 which brought in 13.6 crores at the Box Office. 6. Pankaj Kapur: Mausam [caption id="attachment_1851" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] A perfect actor, his most acclaimed films are Raakh, Ekk Doctor Ki Maut, and Abba Ji. He directed Mausam in 2011 with his son Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the lead. 7. Raj Kapoor: Mera Naam Joker [caption id="attachment_1852" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Raj Kapoor is and forever will be a legend of the Indian Cinema and his influence and involvement in Bollywood have no par. With his acting and directing combo in movies like Awaara, Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, Sangam and so many more, this actor-director-producer will always be remembered. 8. Hema Malini: Dil Aashna Hai [caption id="attachment_1848" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Bollywood’s ‘Dream Girl’, Hema Malini is a combination of actor-director-politician who rose to fame with Sholay. She directed Dil Aashna Hai in 1992 along with Mohini and Tell Me O Khuda in 2011 and received a lot of appreciation. 9. Aamir Khan: Taare Zameen Par [caption id="attachment_1862" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Aamir Khan is not only an actor, but a producer, director, television talk show host, singer, screenwriter, activist, and philanthropist. One of the most prominent actors in Bollywood, his direction of Taare Zameen Par won him the Filmfare Award and the Zee Cine Award for the best director. 10. Konkona Sen Sharma: A Death in the Gunj [caption id="attachment_1849" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] A national award winner, this actress has done some bold and different roles in Page 3, Life In A Metro, Omkara and the most noteworthy controversy—Lipstick Under My Burkha. She made her debut as a director recently with A Death in the Gunj. These actor-directors put in a lot of time and work in directing their films and they should be given a round of applause.
