Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 is currently enjoying a strong run at the box office. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the romantic-action film arrived in cinemas on August 14, 2026, and opened against Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s Batwara 1947.
While the focus is currently on the theatrical performance of Awarapan 2, producer Vishesh Bhatt has already given fans another reason to celebrate. He has confirmed that work is underway on Jannat 3, the next chapter of another popular franchise associated with Emraan Hashmi.
The Jannat franchise began in 2008, with Emraan playing Arjun Dixit and Sonal Chauhan playing Zoya. The film went on to become an important title in Hashmi’s career, and its success eventually led to Jannat 2 in 2012 where Emraan Hashmi played Sonu Dilli and Esha Gupta played Janhvi. Now, more than a decade later, the franchise could be heading back to the big screen.
Vishesh Bhatt Confirms Jannat 3
In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Vishesh Bhatt was asked whether Jannat 3 would eventually be made. The producer confirmed that the project is being considered and that work has already started. When asked about the possibility of the third installment, Vishesh said, “Awarapan ke baad mein, I am definitely looking into Jannat 3.”
The statement is significant for fans of the franchise because it confirms that Jannat 3 is not merely a fan-driven speculation at this stage. The producer is actively looking into the project after completing Awarapan 2. However, there is still some distance to cover before the film becomes a finished project.
Is The Jannat 3 Script Locked?
While the confirmation of Jannat 3 is exciting, Vishesh Bhatt also made it clear that the script is still being worked on. During the same conversation, he was asked whether the script had already been locked. The producer replied, “Vahi cheez pe kaam chal raha hain.”
This means that the story and screenplay are still in development. There is no confirmation yet about the final plot, casting or other details of the project. For now, the biggest update is that the makers are actively working on the next chapter of the Jannat franchise.
Jannat Franchise Began With Emraan Hashmi And Sonal Chauhan
The first Jannat arrived in theatres on May 16, 2008. Emraan Hashmi played Arjun Dixit, while Sonal Chauhan starred as Zoya. Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, the film became a success and developed a strong following among audiences. Its combination of romance, crime and music became one of its biggest attractions.
According to Cinetales, Jannat earned Rs 30.10 crore in India. Following the success of the first film, the makers returned with Jannat 2 in 2012. Jannat 2 collected Rs 42.50 crore. Kunal Deshmukh once again directed the sequel. The first two films therefore established a clear connection between the franchise and Emraan Hashmi.
Awarapan 2 Was Not Made As A Cash-Grab Film
Vishesh Bhatt also addressed another important topic during his conversation with Zoom. While discussing Awarapan 2, the producer stressed that the sequel was not made simply to cash in on the popularity of the original. According to Vishesh, the project did not initially attract distributors who were willing to buy the film. He said,
“Nobody in the market came to buy the film. We put our own money into it. Yes, the market did wake up when the film was ready“.
His comments offer an insight into the way the sequel was developed and financed. Rather than treating the film as an easy franchise opportunity, the makers backed the project themselves before the market showed interest. The strong response to Awarapan 2 has now changed the situation considerably.
Vishesh Bhatt On Awarapan 2 Vs Batwara 1947 Clash
Awarapan 2 also arrived during a major box office clash with Batwara 1947. However, Vishesh Bhatt believes the two films belong to different zones and cater to different audiences. According to him, there is enough room at the box office for audiences to choose the kind of film they want to watch. He said,
“And the hope is, it only comes down to aapko shows mile ke nahi mile. Jisme clash ka vo hota hain ke aapko cinema mile hi nahi. Nahi toh aisa koi clash nahi hota hain. There is no content clash, unless they are the same kind of film. So many times on a weekend the audience watches both of them. I have done that in Lagaan and Gaddar.”
His argument is that a box office clash becomes a genuine problem when two films are targeting essentially the same audience. When their genres and stories are different, audiences can potentially watch both.
Could Emraan Hashmi Return For Jannat 3?
The biggest question surrounding Jannat 3 is naturally Emraan Hashmi’s involvement. The first two installments featured Hashmi in the lead role, and the franchise remains closely associated with the actor. However, based on the information currently available, there is no official confirmation about the cast of Jannat 3.
Vishesh Bhatt’s comments only confirm that work is underway on the project and that the script is being developed. Therefore, fans will have to wait for an official announcement regarding Hashmi’s return and the direction the story will take.
What Can Fans Expect From Jannat 3?
At this stage, there are no confirmed story details for Jannat 3. The script is still being worked on, so it would be premature to speculate about whether the film will continue the story of the earlier installments or introduce an entirely new chapter. What is clear is that the makers are interested in bringing the franchise back.
The timing is also interesting. Awarapan 2 has brought renewed attention to Emraan Hashmi’s association with romantic and emotionally intense films. A new Jannat installment could therefore give the actor another opportunity to return to a franchise that played an important role in his career.
Conclusion
The wait for Jannat 3 has finally received a major update. Vishesh Bhatt has confirmed that he is definitely looking into the third installment after Awarapan 2, while also revealing that work on the script is currently underway.
There is no confirmation yet on the cast or release date, and Emraan Hashmi’s return remains officially unconfirmed based on the information available. Still, the franchise is moving forward. After Awarapan 2, another beloved Emraan Hashmi franchise could soon be making its way back to cinemas. For fans who grew up with Jannat, that is certainly an exciting possibility.
