Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar brings together school nostalgia, old crushes, friendship and the complications of modern relationships in a youthful romantic comedy. Directed by Anuj Saini and written by Luv Ranjan, Jehan Handa and Saini, the film stars Sparsh Walia, Kunal Vaid, Sargun Kaur Luthra, Alisha Chopra, Sakshi Vaidya and Tushar Chhibber. Rajkummar Rao also makes a cameo appearance.
The premise has a familiar appeal. Most people have wondered at some point what happened to their school-time crush or whether an old connection could lead to something more. The film builds on that feeling, adding contemporary dating troubles and a reunion trip to the mix. While the young cast brings fresh energy to the story, the film takes time to find its direction. It has enough charm to entertain, but its predictable romantic conflicts prevent it from becoming a memorable rom-com.
Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar Story

Gautam (Sparsh Walia), Vedant (Kunal Vaid) and Shivi (Sargun Kaur Luthra) are three close friends trying to navigate adult life. Their corporate jobs revolve around targets, deadlines and promotions, while people around them seem to be moving ahead with their personal lives. Still single and carrying unresolved feelings from their school days, the trio decides to attend a school reunion camp.
The trip to Dehradun offers them a chance to revisit old memories and reconnect with their childhood crushes. What begins as a nostalgic getaway soon turns into a complicated mix of attraction, jealousy, insecurity and romantic confusion. Their expectations do not quite match reality, and their attempts to express their feelings lead to several awkward situations.
As the reunion progresses, the three friends are forced to confront what they actually want from their relationships. Old feelings resurface, new complications emerge, and the boundaries between friendship and romance become increasingly difficult to navigate. The question is whether the past deserves another chance or whether some memories are better left untouched.
Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar Review

Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar starts with a relatable setup and an easygoing tone. The friendship between Gautam, Vedant and Shivi gives the opening portions a pleasant energy. Their conversations and interactions feel more natural than some of the romantic situations that follow. The school reunion also provides a familiar setting for humour and nostalgia.
However, the first half takes its time establishing a clear direction. The characters meet their old crushes, feelings begin to surface, and the story moves through the usual misunderstandings. Yet, the narrative does not always make these developments engaging enough. The film often relies on the idea of first love without fully exploring why these old connections still matter so much to the characters.
The second half is comparatively better. The romantic plans begin to go wrong, leading to amusing complications and a more focused narrative. Some situations generate genuine laughs, while the climax brings the story to a reasonably satisfying close. The contemporary dialogues also work in the film’s favour. They give the characters a youthful voice without depending too heavily on recycled internet jokes.
The biggest issue is predictability. One romantic track, in particular, asks the audience to accept that a person can develop intense feelings for a school crush after barely sharing a connection with them years earlier. Expecting that person to reconsider an impending wedding within a couple of days makes the situation even harder to buy. Nostalgia can bring back emotions, but the film needed to build these relationships more convincingly.
At 2 hours and 22 minutes, the runtime also feels excessive for a story of this nature. A tighter screenplay could have made the romantic developments sharper and the comedy more consistent.
Music And Technical Aspects

The music adds some warmth to the proceedings. “Purane Din” stands out for its nostalgic feel, bringing back memories of school friendships and simpler times. Jubin Nautiyal’s “Pyaar Maanga Hai Tumhi Se” is another soulful addition. The songs suit the film’s romantic mood, although the soundtrack does not consistently elevate the narrative.
Visually, the Dehradun setting gives the film an appealing backdrop. The technical presentation remains straightforward, keeping the focus on the characters and their relationships rather than attempting anything particularly ambitious.
Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar Performances

The fresh ensemble is one of the film’s positives. Sparsh Walia brings a confident screen presence to Gautam and handles the character’s romantic confusion with reasonable ease. Kunal Vaid makes a decent impression as Vedant, contributing to the friendship dynamic that anchors the story.
Sargun Kaur Luthra is among the more engaging performers. She brings energy and assurance to Shivi, helping the character stand out in the ensemble. Her interactions with the other two leads are often more convincing than the film’s romantic developments.
Alisha Chopra adds freshness to the romantic portions, while Sakshi Vaidya and Tushar Chhibber contribute to the larger group dynamic. The performances are promising, although the writing does not give every character enough depth to leave a lasting impression. The trio’s camaraderie remains more consistently appealing than some of their individual love stories.
Rajkummar Rao’s cameo is a welcome addition. His appearance brings an extra spark to the film’s theme of first love, even though the role is brief.
Final Verdict

Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar has the ingredients of an enjoyable youthful romantic comedy: old crushes, close friendships, contemporary conversations and the possibility of a second chance at love. The fresh cast, relatable setup, a few amusing moments and nostalgic music keep it watchable. PPDP is a decent, breezy romantic entertainer that offers a few pleasant moments. Overall, a decent one-time watch.
