Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 1 brings one of India’s greatest epics to the big screen with Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Ravie Dubey in pivotal roles. The film takes audiences through Lord Rama’s journey, his marriage to Sita, their exile, and the events that eventually lead to her abduction by Ravana.
However, the first instalment does not take the story all the way to the legendary battle between Rama and Ravana. Instead, it ends with an emotional confrontation that sets the stage for the next chapter. So, what happens in the climax, and what does the post-credits scene reveal? Let’s break it down.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers from Ramayana Part 1, including its climax and post-credits scene.
Why Does Ravana Abduct Sita?
The trouble begins after Lakshmana confronts Shurpanakha and cuts off her nose. Humiliated and furious, she seeks revenge by turning to her brother Ravana. The demon king decides to abduct Sita and seeks help from Maarich. The latter transforms himself into a beautiful golden deer, catching Sita’s attention. She asks Rama to bring the deer for her.
Rama leaves their forest home to follow it. Lakshmana also goes after him, leaving Sita alone. Ravana then arrives disguised as an ascetic seeking alms. He tricks Sita into crossing the protective boundary created by Lakshmana and abducts her in the Pushpaka Vimana, taking her towards Lanka. But Ravana’s journey does not go completely unchallenged.
Ramayana Part 1 Ending Explained: Jatayu Fights Ravana
As Ravana carries Sita away, Jatayu, the noble king of birds, spots the flying chariot. He immediately comes to her rescue and attacks Ravana. What follows is one of the film’s most emotional sequences. Jatayu puts up a fierce fight against the powerful demon king. He even damages the Pushpaka Vimana and comes close to rescuing Sita.
However, Ravana eventually overpowers him. He strikes Jatayu with his weapon and cuts off his wings. The brave bird falls to the ground, gravely injured, while Ravana continues towards Lanka. Jatayu’s sacrifice becomes the emotional centrepiece of the climax. He knows that Ravana is far more powerful, yet refuses to stand aside while Sita is being taken away.
Before dying, Jatayu informs Rama about Sita’s abduction and warns him about the challenges waiting ahead. Ravana rules three realms and commands a formidable army of Asuras. His forces include his brother Kumbhakarna and his powerful son Meghanada, also known as Indrajit.
What Does Rama Promise After Jatayu’s Death?
Jatayu’s death leaves Rama heartbroken and furious. He now knows that Sita has been taken to Lanka, but reaching her will not be easy. Rama makes a powerful declaration:
“Ravana teeno lokon ka swami hai. Main teeno lokon ke saamne uska vadh karunga [Ravana is the lord of all three worlds. I will slay him before all three worlds].”
This statement sets the foundation for the second instalment. Rama is determined to bring Sita home and punish Ravana for his actions. The film ends its main storyline on this emotional moment rather than rushing into the final war. Jatayu’s sacrifice gives Rama a clear direction, while the warning about Ravana’s army establishes the scale of the battle ahead. The emotional finale also gets a rousing finish with a Jai Shri Ram moment in Sunny Deol’s voice, giving audiences another reason to cheer.
Ramayana Part 1 Post-Credits Scene Explained: Sunny Deol Appears As Hanuman
The post-credits scene offers one of the biggest surprises for audiences. During Ravana’s journey to Lanka, Sita drops her jewellery along the way. She hopes that these ornaments will help Rama identify the route taken by Ravana.
The story then moves to Kishkindha, where Sugriva discovers the jewellery. He eventually hands the ornaments to Hanuman. And that’s where Sunny Deol makes his entry as Lord Hanuman. His appearance sets up one of the most important developments in the next chapter: Hanuman joining Rama in his search for Sita and the fight against Ravana.
The post-credits sequence also offers a glimpse of Meghanada, Ravana’s eldest son and the crown prince of Lanka. Raghav Juyal plays the character, who is expected to have a significant role in Part 2.
What To Expect From Ramayana Part 2?
The first film deliberately stops before the biggest confrontation between Rama and Ravana. It introduces the central characters, establishes Ravana’s power, and gives Rama a personal reason to begin the journey towards Lanka.
The arrival of Hanuman is particularly important. His alliance with Rama will play a crucial role in the search for Sita and the events leading to the war.
Producer Namit Malhotra has confirmed that Ramayana Part 2 is scheduled to arrive during Diwali 2028. The additional time will allow the team to work on the extensive visual effects required for the concluding chapter.
Final Thoughts
Ramayana Part 1 ends with Jatayu’s sacrifice, Rama’s vow to defeat Ravana, and Hanuman’s much-awaited introduction in the post-credits scene.
Rather than rushing through the entire epic, Nitesh Tiwari saves the grand battle for the second instalment. The first chapter builds the emotional foundation, while the final moments make it clear that Rama’s journey to Lanka is only beginning. With Sunny Deol’s Hanuman and Raghav Juyal’s Meghanada entering the picture, the anticipation for Ramayana Part 2 is already high.
