Thamma Movie Review: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna Shine In This Horror-Comedy Spectacle

This Diwali, it’s a full-blown cinematic clash at the box office — Thamma vs Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat! But let’s be honest — all eyes were on Thamma since the moment Maddock Films announced it as part of their iconic Horror Comedy Universe. With Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Paresh Rawal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Faisal Malik, Geeta Agarwal, and Sathyaraj in one film, the hype was bound to hit the roof!

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, Thamma is not just another spooky comedy. It’s an experience. It brings together myth, magic, laughter, and emotion — all wrapped in a story that expands the Maddock Horror Universe like never before.

After Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2, Maddock takes another leap with Thamma, blending the heart of Indian folklore with the scale of modern superhero storytelling. The result? A perfect Diwali firecracker — one that explodes with emotion, thrill, and cinematic spectacle.

Thamma Story

The film begins deep inside an eerie forest where ancient curses and forgotten guardians still lurk. Ayushmann Khurrana plays Alok, a small-town journalist always chasing his next big story. But fate has other plans. His pursuit of a mystery leads him into a supernatural world where myths breathe, and nightmares walk among humans.

Rashmika Mandanna plays Tadaka, fierce, bold, and far from the usual “horror heroine” stereotype. She isn’t a victim; she’s the power itself. Together, Alok and Tadaka’s paths cross in a storm of love, danger, and destiny.

As the story unfolds, Thamma reveals the hidden layers of the Maddock Horror Universe, connecting events from Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. The movie builds intrigue through ancient myths, emotional flashbacks, and jaw-dropping twists, leading up to an epic showdown that changes everything you thought you knew about this universe.

Thamma Movie Review

Aditya Sarpotdar crafts Thamma with vision and precision. The film doesn’t just scare; it moves you. Every laugh, every chill, every emotional moment feels earned. The world-building is spectacular, every corner of this story has purpose.

Niren Bhatt’s screenplay is sharp and unpredictable. The humor feels natural, and the emotional beats land perfectly. Yes, the first half takes time to set up. Once it does, it keeps you intrigued with its mystery. The second half is where Thamma roars. It’s a wild ride packed with action, emotion, and larger-than-life moments.

The VFX work deserves a round of applause. Especially the climactic battle between Alok and Bhediya (Varun Dhawan). It’s visually stunning, emotionally charged, and easily one of the most talked-about sequences of the year. The face-off isn’t just fan service, it’s storytelling brilliance.

And if you’re a Maddock fan, keep your eyes open. The Easter eggs here are gold! From Stree’s ghostly whispers to the return of Sar Kata (the headless spirit), the film teases a massive crossover that fans have been dreaming about.

Sachin-Jigar’s music has once again did the magic. The music is already hit. The songs Tum Mere Naa Huye, Dilbar Ki Aankhon Ka, Poison Baby, and Rahen Na Rahen Hum are chartbusters. The background score by Sachin–Jigar keeps the tension alive and the heart beating fast. It’s cinematic joy with layers of myth and meaning.

Ayushmann Khurrana is in top form. As Alok, he’s goofy, real, and immensely relatable. His transformation from a curious reporter to a courageous hero is believable and beautifully acted. His expressions, timing, and emotional delivery are pitch-perfect.

Rashmika Mandanna, as Tadaka, is the heart and soul of Thamma. She brings fire, grace, and depth to her role. Her chemistry with Ayushmann is refreshing and filled with emotion. It’s not your usual love story, it’s rooted in purpose and passion.

Paresh Rawal, as Alok’s father, adds comic relief with his witty sarcasm and grounded warmth. Nawazuddin Siddiqui brings a mysterious layer to the story, his screen time may be short, but his presence lingers. Sathyaraj, returning as the eccentric paranormal expert Elvis, ties the Maddock Universe together with humor and insight. Faisal Malik is a surprise. Though in limited role, he always leaves an impression.

Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya scenes are pure madness, and his showdown with Thamma is iconic. The energy in those sequences is unmatched. Even Nora Fatehi’s short cameo adds meaning, linking the Stree mythos and teasing something massive coming soon.

Also, Maddock has announced his upcoming film in the universe. Yes, the buzz is real and it is official. Saiyaara’s fame Aneet Padda will be seen in MHCU upcoming movie Shakti Shalini. Her introduction in the post-credit is powerful.
