OTT platforms have got a boom in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. People were more into watching web series of various genres, as the daily TV shows got off the reel. Much like the last couple of years, crime-drama was the flavor of the season. However, due to the free time provided by the pandemic, the audience has exposed themselves to almost all genres. The year has definitely been a game-changer for the OTT platforms. Internet Movie Database (IMDB) recently released its list for the top ten Indian web series for the year 2020. Streamed on SonyLIV, the series explains the crucial aspects of India's biggest financial stock market scam. Everything from its theme song to the knowledge that it gives you about the stock market is exceptionally engaging. The casting of the show has caught the large attention of the audience, each and everyone from the play has understood and immersed themselves in their roles. The captivating storyline and spectacular acting have contributed greatly to the success of the web series. 2. Panchayat [caption id="attachment_15802" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Amazon Prime Video's Panchayat was the second most rated web series and has an IMDB score of 8.7. The story revolves around the character of Abhishek Tripathi who gets a low salary job in remote villages as Panchayat Secretary. The best part about Panchayat was its strong casting was supported by Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, and Chandan Roy. The Show was released during the lockdown and left the audience feeling warm and velvety. 3. It takes away the audience for an authentic tour of Indian classical music. The romantic musical drama is a story of two individuals of completely different tastes and backgrounds in the journey of exploring themselves. It bags in the third position with an IMDB score of 8.7. 4. Special Ops [caption id="attachment_15804" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Directed by Neeraj Pandey Special Ops began in a very assuring manner and stuck to the promise. The ace actor Kay Kay Menon plays the protagonist in the boots of Himmat Singh. The Disney+Hotsar VIP series secured a score of 8.5. It highlights the severity of the 2001 Parliamentary attacks and the role of the masterminds behind it. 5. Asur [caption id="attachment_15799" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Voot Selects Asur stands proudly in the 5th position with a score of 8.4. It is a fascinating combination of suspense, mythology, and murders of totally unrelated people. The crime thriller takes us to Varanasi when Nikhil Nair (Barun Sobti) returns to the CBI for solving the case of the dangerous killer. He reunites with his former mentor Dhananjay Rajpoot (Arshad Warsi) and the duo digs out the Asur from the darkness. 6. Aarya [caption id="attachment_15796" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Directed by Ram Madhvani and based on the Dutch series Penoza, Aarya keeps the viewers engaged in its intriguing story. Sushmita Sen made can be seen playing a powerful role in the Disney+Hotstar VIP series which bagged an IMDB score of 7.9. Ram Madhvani has also assured the viewers of the second season. 7. The gone game was filmed during the lockdown and displays how social media, which are zoom calls, text messages could be used exemplarily. The Voot Select web series scores 7.9 out of 10. 8. Paatal Lok [caption id="attachment_15801" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Another web series packed with suspense, drama, and crime on the Amazon Prime Video secures a total of 7.8 according to IMDB. Paatal Lok explores the darker side of the past four suspects in the assassination attempt of a renowned journalist. It showcases the challenges faced by the ordinary police officers, and how they are pressurized by the higher officials and politicians. The web series has been shot on various plots which constantly forces the viewers to scratch their brains. 9. Mirzapur 2 [caption id="attachment_15800" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] One of the most awaited web series of 2020 was the second season of Mirzapur. It was on top of almost everyone's binge-watch list. The successful sequel of season 1, witnessed Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) taking over the throne of Mirzapur from Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) after losing his brother Bablu (Vikrant Massey) and wife Sweety (Shriya Pilgaonkar). The season ended in a tragic way, and also gave birth to a fierce rivalry between Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu. The third season is all that is expected from the series. 10. Flesh [caption id="attachment_15798" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] The flesh was released on Erosnow and was quite traditional in its approach towards good vs evil. The story of the Web series is based on the human trafficking that takes place in India. Swara Bhaskar can be seen playing the lead role in the series. These were some of the web series that attracted a large number of viewers and were the hot topic this year.
