In this era, where there are hundreds of TV channels, there are hardly a few we can remember. But, back in our childhood days in 90's, we used to watch only a few selected ones. Those channels used to be our favorite. They started with a band and created a buzz in the TV industry. But, they are not common now and are somewhere extinct. Let us recall a few of them and give yourselves a good dose of nostalgia. 1. Home TV [caption id="attachment_2560" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Do you remember the only Indian channel which aired Kung Fu series like The Zu Mountain Saga in 1997-98? Yes, it was Home TV and it used to be kids favorite then. It went live in 1996 but was taken over by Sahara in 1999. Kids had some great memories with the Home TV channel. 2. DD Metro [caption id="attachment_2561" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] If you are a 90’s kind, you will surely remember DD Metro. It aired some of the best modern shows which were widely appreciated. However, it folded in 2003. 3. 9X [caption id="attachment_2562" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] This entertainment channel was launched in 2007. Later, it was brought out by the Zee Network. Suffering from the lack of funds, it stopped producing new shows in 2009 and kept airing the old ones. However, this could not survive long, and the channel was brought down in 2015. 4. UTV Stars [caption id="attachment_2563" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] It was the first-ever and best Bollywood and lifestyle channel of that era. It only ran for 4 years, from 2010-2014. 5. Real [caption id="attachment_2564" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] It was a channel that aired only reality shows. It was highly appreciated. But, due to some unavoidable circumstances, it could only run for a year between 2008 and 2009. 6. Zindagi [caption id="attachment_2565" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] It was India’s only channel that concentrated on airing content from Pakistan. It started in 2014, but due to Indo-Pak relations, it stopped airing content from Pakistan in 2016. Later, it only aired Indian original shows. But, it couldn’t last further and the channel ceased its operations in 2017. 7. NDTV Imagine/Imagine TV [caption id="attachment_2566" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] This channel was established under the NDTV Group. It was launched in 2008 and was taken over by Turner Broadcasting System later, after which it was named as Imagine TV. The channel stopped in May 2012. 8. Bindass Play [caption id="attachment_2567" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] This was the only music channel based on user’s requests. However, it could only survive for three years between 2014 and 2017. 9. MTV Indies [caption id="attachment_2568" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] MTV launched MTV Indies in 2015 which aired independent artists from both the music and comedy worlds. However, the losses became unbearable and Network 18 named it as MTV Beats which exclusively plays Bollywood music. 10. Star One/Life OK [caption id="attachment_2569" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] Initially called as Star One, it aired some of the hit shows of the 90’s including Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai. It was then renamed as Life OK in 2011. Again, in 2017 its name was changed to Star Bharat. 11. Channel V [caption id="attachment_2570" align="alignnone" width="800"] via[/caption] It was known as the coolest channel for 90’s teenagers. Channel V ran successfully for around two decades finally shutting down in 2017. It left behind a huge heap of memories. Any more such nostalgic channels you could remember?
