A major controversy has erupted in Bollywood after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) took a strong stand against Ranveer Singh over his exit from Don 3. What initially looked like a casting change has now escalated into an industry-wide issue involving alleged financial losses, contractual commitments, and a non-cooperation directive issued by one of the biggest film employee bodies in India.

The matter has become even bigger after claims that Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, is seeking ₹45 crore in damages from the actor following his departure from the project.

The development has now sparked intense conversations across the film industry about accountability, contracts, and the impact sudden exits can have on producers and workers.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees has officially issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh after he allegedly failed to appear before the body despite multiple reminders.

Speaking to the media in Mumbai, FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit said, “On 11th April, Farhan filed a complaint. Three weeks before the unit was to leave for shoot, Ranveer left the movie.”

According to FWICE, they invited both Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani to explain the situation. While Ritesh appeared in person, Farhan joined the discussion virtually from London.

Pandit revealed, “They narrated the full incident for two hours. They also presented all the expenses incurred on pre-production, which are accounted for and audited. These include hotel bookings, location bookings, and overseas travel bookings for over 200 workers. Everything is on paper. Nothing is hearsay.”

₹45 Crore Damage Claim Against Ranveer Singh

The controversy intensified after FWICE disclosed the scale of the alleged financial losses linked to Don 3’s halted production plans.

According to Ashoke Pandit, all the pre-production expenses together amount to nearly ₹45 crore. Excel Entertainment has reportedly demanded this amount as compensation from Ranveer Singh.

Pandit stated, “Ranveer had signed a contract with Excel Entertainment for three films. The entire recce was in his presence. The inputs for script were made in his presence. A promo was shot with him to announce the film.”

This statement suggests that the project had already moved deep into preparation stages before the actor’s sudden exit.

Why FWICE Issued A Non-Cooperation Directive

FWICE members clarified that their stand is not personal but is aimed at protecting the industry ecosystem.

Ashoke Pandit said, “When a federation is inviting you to talk, you say it’s not our domain. We know our jurisdiction. It’s a trade union. We don’t appreciate him saying that. We’ve taken a stand in the interest of the producers and the industry.”

FWICE President BN Tiwari further added, “We’ve decided to send a message to the industry that a superstar is not bigger than the law. We’re issuing a non-cooperation directive until he decides to meet us personally.”

General Secretary Ashok Dubey also stated, “None of our sitting workers across India — including technicians, spotboys, etc — will work with Ranveer Singh.”

This directive could potentially impact multiple upcoming projects involving the actor.

Industry Concern Over Sudden Project Exits

FWICE also highlighted how such exits affect not just producers, but thousands of workers connected to a project.

BN Tiwari said, “We request all producer bodies to support us because any actor can leave a project by flatly saying that he doesn’t like the story.”

Ashoke Pandit added, “When a film is stopped suddenly, thousands of workers’ jobs get hampered. It’s a big loss for the producers and the workers. We’ve always maintained a fair balance between the producers and the workers.”

He also revealed that industry figures like Aamir Khan, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Shibashish Sarkar tried to mediate between the parties, but discussions reportedly failed.

Could Ranveer’s Future Projects Be Affected?

FWICE claims that with over 5000 sitting members and 32 affiliated craft unions, the directive could affect not just films but also advertisements and future collaborations involving Ranveer Singh.

Pandit also addressed questions around Pralay, the upcoming zombie apocalypse thriller backed by Hansal Mehta and Applause Entertainment.

He said, “It’s a producer’s risk. We’ve warned the producers that if they go ahead, it’s going to be their loss.”

Despite the strong stance, FWICE maintained that the issue is not personal against Ranveer.

Pandit added, “We all respect him. This is not personal. He’s a very important person of the film industry. He’s brought the audience back to the theatres.”

Referring to the massive success of the Dhurandhar franchise, he acknowledged Ranveer’s contribution to cinema before saying, “But you can’t take a stand of being aloof from the industry.”

BN Tiwari concluded the press conference with the line, “Bachche jab kharab ho jate hain, unko sahi karna padta hai.”

Ranveer Singh’s Official Response

After maintaining silence for weeks, Ranveer Singh finally responded through his spokesperson.

The statement read, “Ranveer Singh holds the highest regard for the film fraternity and for everyone associated with the Don franchise. Throughout the recent developments surrounding Don 3, he has consciously chosen to maintain silence, believing that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect.”

The statement further added, “While several narratives and speculations have surfaced over time, Ranveer has never considered it necessary to respond publicly or contribute to conjecture. His focus remains firmly on his work and the commitments ahead.”

It concluded by saying, “Choosing restraint and grace in moments like these has always been a conscious decision on his part, and he will continue to maintain the same stance.”

What Exactly Is The Don 3 Controversy?

The controversy dates back to December 2025 when Ranveer Singh exited Don 3, nearly two years after officially signing the film.

Reports suggest the actor cited script changes as the reason behind his departure. His exit came shortly after the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar.

According to Excel Entertainment, the actor had allegedly delayed the film multiple times citing scheduling issues before eventually opting out completely.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan Akhtar addressed the situation by saying, “What I’ve learnt is expect the unexpected. You can’t take anything for granted until it’s on film.”

He added, “You realize at some point, there’ll be a period that would come that would be a bit challenging. You’ve had it good. It’s okay, just take it in your stride.”

Conclusion

The Don 3 controversy has now gone far beyond a casting change. It has become a conversation about contracts, accountability, and the balance of power within the film industry.

While FWICE believes it is protecting producers and workers, Ranveer Singh’s team continues to maintain silence and dignity in public.

The coming weeks could prove crucial, especially with the non-cooperation directive now officially in place.

For now, one thing is certain — this is one of Bollywood’s biggest industry controversies in recent times, and its impact may be felt long after the headlines fade.
