Some comedies are built around clever writing. Others simply throw a group of confused characters into one situation and let the chaos take over. Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? previousy titled Jeevan Bheema Yojana belongs firmly to the latter category. Directed by Abhishek Dogra, the crime comedy stars Arshad Warsi, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Pooja Chopra, Vijay Raaz, Brijendra Kala, and the late Atul Parchure.
The film revolves around mistaken identities, an insurance scam and a group of characters who keep making their situation worse. It has an old-school comedy setup that occasionally works.
Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? Movie Story
Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? follows Jeevan (Arshad Warsi), a middle-class man who puts his entire life savings into opening a restaurant. Just when his dream is ready to take shape, the COVID-19 lockdown changes everything. His business plans collapse. His bank EMIs continue to pile up. Jeevan is forced to borrow money and soon finds himself being chased by lenders and goons. With no way out, he and his wife Yojana (Sanjeeda Shaikh) come up with a risky plan to claim an insurance payout by faking Jeevan’s death.
He discovers that Bheema (Arshad Warsi), a criminal who happens to be his lookalike, could be the answer to all his problems. Bheema is a diamond smuggler who works for gangster Vinayak (Vijay Raaz). He also happens to be a heavy drinker with a completely different personality from Jeevan.

Jeevan decides to exploit their physical resemblance. His plan is simple on paper. Bheema will die, Jeevan will assume his identity and an insurance policy worth Rs 2 crore will solve all his financial problems. Of course, nothing remains simple for long.
But Bheema’s criminal connections soon arrive at their doorstep. Vinayak and his right-hand man Manu (Brijendra Kala) are looking for Bheema and the diamonds he stole. At the same time, an insurance inspector (Atul Parchure) begins investigating the claim. Adding to the chaos is their landlady Yashika, played by Pooja Chopra. She also develops an interest in Jeevan and, more importantly, the money involved.
The entire situation quickly turns into a comedy of errors. Everyone suspects everyone else. Jeevan has to convince people that he is not Bheema while simultaneously pretending to be Bheema. What follows is a series of misunderstandings, lies and increasingly complicated situations.
Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? Movie Review
Abhishek Dogra understands the basic requirement of this kind of comedy. The film doesn’t take itself seriously. It throws its characters into an absurd situation and allows the confusion to drive the humour. The film doesn’t try to make its comedy sophisticated. It simply wants you to laugh at the mess these characters create. Unfortunately, the screenplay doesn’t extract everything it could from this idea.
The first half gets the film off to a decent start. The central idea is established without taking too long, and the arrival of Bheema immediately creates curiosity. Arshad Warsi also gets enough material to establish the difference between Jeevan and Bheema. However, the film starts losing its grip once the situation becomes more complicated. Instead of constantly finding new ways to use the double-role setup, the screenplay keeps returning to similar situations.
The Vinayak and Manu track has potential. Their suspicion about Jeevan’s identity could have generated much more madness. Some jokes land well because they come naturally from the characters and their circumstances.
Music And Technical Aspects
Technically, there isn’t anything particularly remarkable. The single-location setting limits the visual variety, while the cinematography serves the narrative without trying to draw unnecessary attention to itself. The production design is functional and suits the middle-class setting of Jeevan and Yojana.
The music and background score also remain secondary to the comedy. There isn’t a soundtrack that particularly stands out, but the music doesn’t become a major distraction either. The editing is adequate in the first half but could have been sharper later on. Several scenes could have been shortened without affecting the story.
Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? Performances
Arshad Warsi is easily the biggest strength of the film. Playing two characters who look identical but behave completely differently isn’t easy. Arshad Warsi gives Jeevan and Bheema distinct body language, voices and mannerisms. That distinction is crucial because otherwise the entire joke would depend only on their resemblance.
Sanjeeda Shaikh is good as Yojana. Her chemistry with Arshad Warsi feels natural. She commits fully to the comedy and doesn’t hesitate to embrace the physical humour.
Vijay Raaz is dependable as always. His presence adds some much-needed energy whenever the film moves towards the crime angle. Brijendra Kala also fits comfortably into the world of the film and gets a few amusing moments.
Pooja Chopra gets an interesting comic part as Yashika. She brings energy to her scenes, although the character deserved more material.
Late Atul Parchure makes his presence felt as the insurance inspector. His comic timing and natural screen presence add value to the proceedings. Given his passing, seeing him on screen also carries an added emotional significance. He was an underrated performer who could make even small roles memorable like Awarapan, All The Best and also this film is another reminder of his ability.
Final Verdict
Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? is not a consistently hilarious comedy, but it isn’t a complete misfire either. The premise is promising and there are enough amusing moments to make it a reasonably entertaining watch. However, repetitive writing, predictable twists, uneven humour and stretched pacing hold it back.
Overall, Jeevan Ya Bheema Con? is a decent one-time watch, if you’re looking for a light comedy without expecting anything extraordinary, it does the job.
