These 15 Actors Turned Down To Be A Part Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

From a daring experiment to a major box office attraction, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has developed into the all-time highest-grossing film series. With its efforts, MCU has been conquering the film industry. Due to its superheroes, Marvel has established itself as a prominent cinematic universe. The fact that everyone seems to have their eyes fixed on the Marvel studios may be a scientific fact. Marvel fans may emotionally connect with the series. It makes them feel engaged in the superheroes.

Thanks to a fantastic cast and a unique premise. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has launched numerous acting careers like Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth. In addition, it has loved bringing in well-known performers for special appearances and has recharged others. The majority of stars are longing for a part in the MCU. However, several very famous actors have declined to work with Marvel. Some celebrities decided to join the cast of other films. Some people didn’t want to join a franchise once it succeeded. These 15 actors rejected major Marvel roles:

1. Rachel McAdams (Pepper Pots)

Cinetales

One incredibly talented actor who has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Rachel McAdams. It turns out that she intended to take on another prominent MCU role but declined it. In the action-packed Marvel film Doctor Strange, she tested her abilities. However, McAdams didn’t portray a superhero herself. Instead, she played Christine Palmer, Dr. Stephen Strange’s close friend and potential love interest.

Once, she was considered for the Pepper Potts role. She was to serve as Tony Stark’s assistant and love interest in Iron Man. A prominent character in the show was Pepper. Fans might have seen McAdams in more than one MCU movie if she had accepted the role. But, of course, Gwyneth Paltrow was chosen to play the part. She excels in portraying the fierce and dedicated Pepper. Even though we’re sure McAdams would have performed brilliantly as well.

2. Jason Momoa (Drax the Destroyer)

Cinetales

The way Momoa portrayed Aquaman won over everyone. Despite having appeared in three DC films as the King of Atlantis. He’s already been praised by fans as being hard to replace. The actor had a good chance of being signed by the MCU. However, they wanted him to play the role of Drax, the Guardians of the Galaxy’s Destroyer. He turned it down out of fear of being stereotyped. He believes that he has portrayed roles like Drax many times before.

3. Leonardo DiCaprio (Spider-Man)

Cinetales

The first three Spider-Man movies made by Sam Raimi starred Tobey. He left a lasting impression on everyone who saw him in the role. Since then, Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield have played superhero roles. They appeared in both their own The Amazing Spider-Man and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man franchises. Finally, the three Spider-Men came together in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a treat for all fans. Seeing Tobey and Andrew’s Spider-Man return to the big screen was incredible.

However, Tobey Maguire wasn’t the first actor who was chosen for the Spider-Man role. The actor from Don’t Look Up, Leonardo DiCaprio, was asked first. It turns out that Leonardo DiCaprio also declined the role of Robin. Instead, the actor disclosed that he spoke with Joel Schumacher. The discussion was about Robin’s role in Batman Forever. DiCaprio, however, ultimately had no interest. The same applies to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. One of the celebrities that always favor quality over quantity is Leonardo DiCaprio. Each character he has played up to this point has had a distinctive quality.

4. Joseph Gordon Levitt (Star-Lord)

Cinetales

Early in the 2010s, Joseph Gordon Levitt’s career was flourishing. Gordon-Levitt received the offer to play Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy soon after Inception. He seems like a very obvious pick for the part. If Chris Pratt hadn’t already nailed it, that is. Nevertheless, Gordon-Levitt rejected the Marvel role. The reason being a role in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was his choice. It was owing to the cast’s established history of collaboration.

Chris Pratt was eventually cast when the studio moved on. It’s interesting to note that Chris Pratt also declined the role. The actor at first turned down the invitation to join the MCU. He worried that he wasn’t in enough shape even to try out. We should all be grateful that Pratt had a change of heart.

5. Tom Cruise (Iron Man)

Cinetales

Tom Cruise, a well-known Hollywood actor, was a consideration to play Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Robert Downey Jr. has long been associated with the superhero. Tom Cruise passed on the opportunity because he didn’t believe “it would work.” Tom Cruise was the more commercially successful star in the 2000s. It was due to Robert Downey Jr.’s highly troublesome personal struggles. He wasn’t desired by Marvel to play Tony Stark.

Instead, Marvel Studios was keen to cast Cruise for the role. The MCU, however, had difficulty acquiring the Iron Man character’s rights. Eventually, it led to Cruise losing interest in the project. In addition, reports show that he appealed to have his face revealed even when he was in the suit. Fortunately, these difficulties made it possible for Robert Downey Jr. to reach the MCU.

6. Joaquin Phoenix (Hulk And Doctor Strange)

Cinetales

Because of what actors bring to the table, some roles are made just for them. For example, the MCU’s Doctor Strange is a character we find impossible to see any other actor playing. Benedict Cumberbatch owns it. Another such role is Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Oscar for playing the Joker, was the original choice for the role.

Any studio would benefit significantly from having a Superstar like Joaquin Phoenix. He is a person who adopts the character that he is playing. The MCU never gives up on casting the Phoenix. The Joker actor, however, declined every offer from Marvel. It was because he didn’t think such parts would be satisfactory. Phoenix deserves praise for remaining true to himself. Despite all the attractive offers that kept coming his way.

7. Matthey McConaughey (EGO)

Cinetales

The role of Star-Lord’s father, Ego, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was offered to Matthey McConaughey. However, he declined the invitation to join the franchise. He did so because he believed appearing in a film series after its success wouldn’t be bad. The part of Peter Quill’s dad, Ego, eventually went to Kurt Russell.

8. Olivia Wilde (Gamora)

Cinetales

For many years, Zoe Saldana has played Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with distinction. However, there was a time when she had a good chance of losing the role. It was because Olivia Wilde originally intended to play the assassin. However, due to scheduling issues, Wilde turned down the part. Saldana and the other cast members did an outstanding job. The MCU might have benefited from adding Wilde.

9. Jensen Ackles (Hawkeye)

Cinetales

Jensen Ackles has been a constant on our television screens for a long time. We adored him on his top-rated CW show “Supernatural.” Additionally, he has made numerous other shows. It features “Days Of Our Lives” and “Smallville.” In addition, he has succeeded in receiving several Daytime Emmy awards. Sadly, Ackles failed his Captain America audition and was not given a position. His prospective career with Marvel was not over, though. Chris Evans, who was the ideal candidate for the part, ultimately won the role. However, the studio decided to keep Jensen.

The movie studio thought enough of Ackles’ performance to give him the role of Hawkeye. The first “Avengers” film would have included Jensen as Hawkeye. But the actor decided to decline it. Later, Jeremy Renner took on the job, for which fans have gone crazy.

10. Quinton Jackson (John Wraith)

Cinetales

A former boxer and professional wrestler, Quinton Jackson. He still performs mixed martial arts. Jackson seems like the perfect candidate for a role with Marvel. He has acted in over 20 movies, including The A-Team and Jackass. In 2008, Jackson received a request to work with the production company.

Ultimately, Jackson turned down a role because of his training regimen. The part was in the X-Men Origins film Wolverine. Marvel approached him about playing the mutant John Wraith. They did so because they believed he would be ideal for the plot. The protagonist of the tale was a boxing club owner. Marvel’s request didn’t receive a warm reception from Jackson. But he wouldn’t have had time on set because of his pre-bout schedule.

11. Emily Blunt (Black Widow)

Cinetales

Emily Blunt seems like the ideal choice for Marvel because of her charm. Talent for light humor and background in action movies is also an add-on. She hasn’t worked on a Marvel movie yet, which is surprising. But it’s not because she hasn’t had the chance.

Emily Blunt declined not one but two prominent MCU roles. Blunt was once expected to play Black Widow; a former assassin turned Avenger. However, the actress had to turn down the significant role because of an existing commitment with Fox. Additionally, Blunt was a consideration for the Peggy Carter role in “Captain America: The First Avenger.” But she could not participate in the movie because of schedule issues.

12. Jessica Chastain (Maya Hansen And The Wasp)

Cinetales

Jessica Chastain is known for portraying tough, independent, and feminized characters. Despite this, the audience and critics connect with her acting style. As a result, she has received many awards and has been nominated for many more. Two Oscars and a Golden Globe Award are among them.

Marvel contacted Chastain about a role in their Iron Man film. She was given a chance to play Maya Hansen. Chastain, sadly, was unable to agree. She claimed to be too busy to accept the position on Facebook. Chastain failed to take the role owing to schedule issues. She was revealed to be a cast member of the Marvel movie X-Men: Dark Phoenix a few years later.

13. Bryan Cranston (Sebastian Shaw)

Cinetales

Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad received an offer to play the mutant Sebastian Shaw. The role was in X-Men: First Class. He ultimately decided to decline so that he could work with Ryan Gosling. Marvel then gave Kevin Bacon the part of Shaw. This ended up being a great decision.

14. Matt Damon (Daredevil)

Cinetales

Matt Damon has acted in several anti-hero crime dramas and science fiction films. He had almost 75 acting credits by the time he was 47. It was for movies like Invictus, Promised Land, and Jason Bourne. So it should come as no surprise that Marvel’s producers considered him.

In 2014, he was allowed to play the superhero Daredevil. But he declined it since the script did not impress him. Additionally, he was unfamiliar with the director. To some of us, that could sound trivial. However, many actors choose to work with directors they already know.

15. Alec Baldwin (Undisclosed Role)

via

The famous comedy actor is best known for his role in the successful series 30 Rock. The MCU was almost going to cast Alec. Alec Baldwin’s distinguished career makes it unsurprising that Marvel got in touch with him. Unfortunately, Baldwin did not disclose what role he was offered. However, he did say it was of a villain. Baldwin could not accept the role because of his wife’s pregnancy. Baldwin would have been a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hopefully, in one of their forthcoming films, Marvel will be able to cast him as a villain.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has developed into the all-time highest-grossing movie franchise. The MCU has been successfully reshaping the movie industry.
