Bhooth Bangla marks the much-awaited reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, a duo that has given Bollywood some of its most loved entertainers. From Hera Pheri to Bhool Bhulaiyaa, their films have stayed fresh in audience memory. With this film, they return to familiar territory. A mix of comedy, chaos, and a hint of horror.

Bhooth Bangla features a strong ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mithila Palkar, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, Asrani, Manoj Joshi, and Paresh Rawal. With such a lineup and a genre that suits the director’s style, expectations were naturally high. The film does deliver entertainment, but not without its flaws.

The story revolves around Arjun Acharya, played by Akshay Kumar, who lives in London with his sister Meera and father Dr Vasudev Acharya. Life is going smoothly, and the family is preparing for Meera’s wedding with Rahul. They are looking for a destination in India.

Things take a sudden turn when Arjun and Meera learn about their grandfather, Dushund Acharya, who has passed away in Mangalpur. The twist is that they did not even know he was alive all these years. Along with this revelation comes another surprise. They have inherited his massive ancestral property.

Arjun travels to Mangalpur and sees potential in the old haveli. Though it is in a poor condition, he decides to renovate it and turn it into a wedding venue. He is assisted by Shantaram, played by Asrani, who manages the property.

However, there is a catch. The town is believed to be haunted by a demonic entity called Vadhusur. It is said to target brides, which is why no weddings have taken place in the village for years. Arjun dismisses these claims and moves ahead with his plan.

He hires a wedding planner, Jagdish Kewalramani, played by Paresh Rawal, who arrives with his team to begin preparations. Soon, strange and unexplained events start happening in the haveli. What begins as a fun wedding setup slowly turns into chaos filled with fear, confusion, and madness.

Bhooth Bangla Movie Review

The biggest strength of Bhooth Bangla lies in its humour. Priyadarshan knows this space well, and it shows. The first half is where the film shines the most. The situational comedy works. The misunderstandings, the shouting matches, and the chaos feel nostalgic.

You can clearly see shades of his earlier films. The humour is loud but effective. The timing of the jokes lands well, and there are several moments that genuinely make you laugh. The intermission point is another highlight. It comes unexpectedly and adds a layer of intrigue.

However, the second half does not maintain the same momentum. As the horror elements start taking center stage, the film loses some of its grip. The backstory feels familiar and does not bring anything new. There is a sense of déjà vu, especially for those who have seen similar films in the genre.

The climax of Bhooth Bangla stretches longer than needed. Despite the effort to build tension, it does not fully engage. Some characters also disappear from the narrative, which feels abrupt. The film would have benefited from tighter writing in the second half.

Technically, Bhooth Bangla is strong. Divakar Mani’s cinematography is impressive. The visuals look rich and polished. The haveli is beautifully captured, adding to the atmosphere. The VFX work is good and blends well with the narrative. The action sequences are entertaining, though slightly gory in parts. Editing could have been sharper, especially in the second half.

Tabu in Bhooth Bangla

Sabu Cyril’s production design deserves special mention. The detailing of the set enhances the overall experience. The costumes are vibrant and fit the tone of the film.

Pritam’s music is decent. While most songs are average, “Ram Ji Aake Bhala Karenge” stands out. The background score by Ronnie Raphael is functional and supports the scenes without being distracting.

Bhooth Bangla Performances

Akshay Kumar is in top form. His comic timing remains unmatched. He carries the film on his shoulders and elevates many scenes. He also performs well in emotional moments, showing his versatility.

Tabu looks intriguing but has limited screen time. Her presence adds curiosity, but you wish to see more of her. Wamiqa Gabbi tries her best, but her track feels slightly forced and does not add much to the story. Mithila Palkar gets a well-written role and delivers a dependable performance. She brings a certain warmth to her character.

Paresh Rawal Bhooth Bangla

Paresh Rawal is as reliable as ever. He blends perfectly into the chaos and contributes to the humour effortlessly. The late Asrani leaves a strong impact with his performance. His scenes are memorable and add to the nostalgic feel of the film.

Rajpal Yadav is one of the highlights. His scenes in the first half are extremely entertaining. His banter with Akshay Kumar stands out and adds to the film’s charm.

Among the supporting cast, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajesh Sharma, Manoj Joshi, and Zakir Hussain perform well within their roles.

Final Verdict

Bhooth Bangla

Bhooth Bangla is a film that works mainly because of its humor and performances. The first half is highly entertaining and filled with moments that remind you of classic Priyadarshan comedies. However, the second half becomes predictable, and the pacing drops. Despite these issues, Bhooth Bangla remains a decent entertainer. It offers a mix of nostalgia and modern presentation. If you enjoy old-school comedy with a horror twist, this one is worth a watch.

At the box office, Bhooth Bangla has the advantage of a good release window. If it connects with the audience, it can perform well.
