Modern Bollywood romances are no longer only about dreamy songs and fairytale endings. Today’s love stories are trying to explore emotional trauma, relationship toxicity, emotional exhaustion, and the harsh realities that often arrive after the honeymoon phase ends. Chand Mera Dil, directed by Vivek Soni and backed by Dharma Productions, attempts to tell one such story. Starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday, the film focuses on young love, emotional immaturity, marriage struggles, and the complicated idea of second chances.
The film clearly has its heart in the right place. It wants to move beyond glossy romance and say something meaningful about modern relationships. At times, it genuinely works. But at several moments, the execution struggles to support the emotional depth the story is aiming for. Still, despite its flaws, the film manages to leave behind a few emotionally honest moments that stay with you.
Chand Mera Dil Story
The story revolves around Aarav, played by Lakshya, who secures admission in an engineering college in Hyderabad. During college, he meets Chandni, also known as Chand, portrayed by Ananya Panday. The attraction between them is instant, and soon the two fall deeply in love. Their relationship initially feels warm, exciting, and youthful. The film spends considerable time exploring their chemistry, carefree college romance, and emotional connection.
However, things slowly begin changing. Family complications, emotional immaturity, and personal insecurities start affecting their relationship. The situation becomes even more complicated when Chandni faces an unplanned pregnancy. She decides to keep the child, and eventually the two get married, hoping love will solve everything.
But marriage changes the dynamic completely. Frustration slowly replaces romance. Emotional distance starts growing. Small disagreements turn into major arguments, and eventually one heated moment changes everything when the conflict becomes physical. From there, the relationship enters a dark and emotionally exhausting phase involving guilt, emotional trauma, broken trust, and the possibility of redemption. The film constantly questions whether love alone is enough to save a relationship that has already begun collapsing from within.
Chand Mera Dil Movie Review
Vivek Soni deserves appreciation for attempting a relationship drama that moves beyond surface-level romance. The film explores themes like emotional toxicity, psychological pressure, difficult marriages, emotional exhaustion, and postpartum struggles. The intention behind the storytelling feels sincere, and that honesty helps the film in several moments.
One of the strongest aspects of Chand Mera Dil is its visual presentation. Vivek Soni clearly understands how to stage romance aesthetically. The film looks polished throughout. Several romantic sequences are beautifully shot, and the choreography, music, and camera movement often work together effectively. Even when the screenplay weakens emotionally, the visuals continue adding warmth and sincerity to the storytelling.
Interestingly, the film becomes more engaging once the romantic fantasy begins breaking apart. The portions dealing with marriage struggles and emotional conflict feel more layered and emotionally effective than the dreamy first-half romance. The scenes exploring emotional exhaustion and relationship breakdown carry genuine potential.
However, the screenplay struggles with consistency. The writing by Vivek Soni, Tushar Paranjape, and Akshat Ghildial starts promisingly but repeatedly loses emotional momentum. Abrupt transitions weaken emotional continuity, and certain dramatic moments feel manufactured rather than naturally developed. Just when the audience begins connecting emotionally, the narrative quickly jumps elsewhere.
The second half begins strongly and gives hope for a more emotionally mature film. Unfortunately, the narrative eventually loses control again. The climax stretches emotionally without carrying enough narrative strength to justify its length. It almost feels like the film runs out of emotional energy before reaching its conclusion.
Technically, the film remains polished. The cinematography beautifully captures the romantic atmosphere, especially during the musical sequences. The lighting and visual texture complement the emotional tone effectively. The choreography and visual framing elevate several scenes beyond what the screenplay achieves.
Sachin-Jigar’s music works nicely within the narrative. Ishaq Nibhaavan and the title track stand out the most emotionally. Faheem Abdullah’s voice in the title track adds soul and emotional depth to the film. However, while the soundtrack remains pleasant, it never reaches the emotional impact the makers possibly intended. The background score supports emotional scenes effectively without becoming overwhelming.
Chand Mera Dil Performances
Lakshya delivers the strongest performance in the film and once again proves his potential as a performer. His dialogue delivery feels natural, but his real strength lies in silent emotional moments. The way he expresses sadness, emotional confusion, helplessness, and guilt through expressions alone becomes one of the film’s highlights. He carries the emotional burden of the story convincingly and keeps several scenes engaging even when the writing weakens.
Ananya Panday performs sincerely and shows noticeable improvement, especially during emotionally intense portions. She captures the anxious energy of a modern woman trying to balance love, self-respect, emotional exhaustion, and motherhood. Her heavier emotional scenes work effectively, and she manages to bring vulnerability to Chandni’s character.
The chemistry between Lakshya and Ananya works in several portions, especially during the earlier romantic scenes. However, the screenplay occasionally prevents the emotional connection from reaching its full potential.
Final Verdict
Overall, Chand Mera Dil is an emotionally ambitious romantic drama that works more because of its intentions than its execution. The film attempts to explore modern relationships beyond dreamy romance, and for that alone, it deserves appreciation. Themes involving emotional trauma, toxicity, marriage struggles, and second chances add emotional depth to the narrative.
However, uneven writing, abrupt emotional transitions, and inconsistent pacing prevent the film from becoming truly impactful. Still, Lakshya’s impressive performance, the polished visuals, and a few emotionally raw moments help keep the film engaging enough.
This is not a perfect love story. It is messy, emotionally exhausting, and complicated. Much like the relationships it tries to portray.
