The film is based on the real life of BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey and the terror attack that shook India in 2001. Ground Zero takes us back to the volatile heart of Kashmir in 2001 — a time when fear lurked in every corner and the lives of jawans were hanging by a thread. The story revolves around BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey (played by Emraan Hashmi), who is stationed in Srinagar amidst a series of cold-blooded killings.

One by one, soldiers are shot dead from behind — the work of a mysterious “pistol gang” led by the ruthless Rana Tahir Nadeem, better known as Ghazi Baba, chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed. With over 70 soldiers lost, the pressure mounts on Narendra and his team to decode this terror network. Will he take a final takedown of Ghazi Baba, or will Ghazi Baba emerge victorious once again? Watch the film to find out.

Director Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar sets the tone right from the first frame. Ground Zero doesn’t waste time — it’s intense, emotionally charged, and rooted in a raw realism that’s hard to shake off. The storytelling isn’t about jingoism or loud chest-thumping — it’s about inner conflict, duty, loss, and redemption. Also, at a time when the Pahalgam attack shook the nation, this story is set in the Kashmir valley, where the security operation was executed in real life.

Throughout his career, Emraan Hashmi has made his mark in films like Gangster, Jannat, Awarapan, Murder 2, Jannat 2, and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. In his latest film, Ground Zero, he portrays a BSF officer. He steps into unfamiliar territory and nails it. As BSF officer Narendra Nath Dubey, he delivers a restrained yet powerful performance, far from the romantic hero we’ve seen before. His internal battles hit just as hard as the external ones. The vulnerability he brings to the role adds layers that stay with you. It’s easily one of the most mature and grounded portrayals from Emraan Hashmi.

The supporting cast does justice to the narrative. Sai Tamhankar as Narendra’s wife, Jaya Dubey, lights up the screen with her quiet strength and measured performance in her limited screen presence.  Abhay Dheeraj Singh, Lalit Prabhakar, and Deepak Parmesh add depth as Narendra’s BSF colleagues. Zoya Hussain, as IB officer Aadila, is equally compelling, calm, focused, and believable to the core. Mukesh Tiwari was also brilliant.

Kamaljeet Negi’s cinematography is top-notch. He perfectly captures the Kashmir valley with real and raw images. The visual tone perfectly matches the narrative – calm on the surface, chaos underneath. The music is average, something you cannot expect from Emraan Hashmi’s film.

The first half is razor-sharp and gripping. The second half slightly loses pace while juggling a few subplots, but regains focus just in time for a finale that delivers emotional impact without going overboard.

Final Verdict

Ground Zero is a gritty and gripping military thriller that shows the psychological and emotional cost of war, along with an ace performance from Emraan Hashmi. If you like stories based on real incidents and patriotism, Ground Zero is highly recommended.
