Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri. The movie was released in 2007 and starred Emraan Hashmi as Shivam, a gangster grappling with love and redemption. The film was known for the intense storyline and, of course, the memorable music, earning it a dedicated fan base over the years. Songs like “To Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta” remain popular among the audience. Over the years, fans have been waiting to see Emraan Hashmi in the same intense and romantic mood, so here comes a sequel that makes the audience curious about the plot, cast, and, of course, the music.
Awarapan 2 will be directed by Nitin Kakkar, known for his work on films like Filmistaan. The script has been written by Bilal Siddiqui, and the film is produced by Vishesh Bhatt under the banner of Vishesh Films, reuniting Emraan Hashmi with the production house behind several earlier hits.’
Emraan Hashmi On Awarapan 2
Talking to News18, Ground Zero actor Emraan Hashmi revealed when the film will go on floors. He said,
“July end is when we’ll start the shoot. “The public demand has been there for 15 years. The fan base of that film is crazy! I’ve some crazy stories about that. About six months back, a guy came up to me at a coffee shop in Dubai. He had a tattoo of Awarapan. It had a pigeon and something that signified freedom. I then sent a message to Vishesh (Bhatt) and Mukesh (Bhatt) ji and told them that we’re doing something right.”
Talking about the script, Emraan Hashmi revealed,
“We’ve been working on the script of the sequel for almost a couple of years. We didn’t want to make a sequel just for the sake of it. It just so happened that we completed working on that script this year. Imagine the kind of draw the film had after its theatrical run.”
He added,
“Awarapan picked up over time through the internet, YouTube, satellite and Torrent. That’s how it developed a huge fan-base. It bears testament to the fact that even a theatrical film isn’t just limited to the cinemas. The trajectory of a film is sometimes very different. If it is good, people will end up consuming it even after it leaves theatres.”
Talking about the original Awarapan, Emraan has revealed that Awarapan is one of his most successful films. He said,
“It wasn’t so successful in 2007 but today, it’s my most successful film. It’s so surprising that what it didn’t do in the subsequent weekends at the box office, it did over a course of 20 years! It went on to garner so much respect and so many eyeballs. There was some truth in my performance in it, and that’s when I told myself that I only want to do performance-driven films.”
Awarapan 2 is currently in the pre-production stage. The makers have locked the date of April 3, 2026, as the release date, giving fans ample time to build anticipation for the sequel. With a new creative team and a commitment to preserving the essence of the original, Awarapan 2 is poised to be a significant addition to Emraan Hashmi’s filmography and is an anticipated release for the audience.
