Ekta was born on 7 June 1975 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her father is a star actor Jeetendra and her mother Shobha Kapoor is a film producer. In 1995, a famous TV channel named Zee TV accepted her show Maano ya Na Maano. At the same moment, her other musical show named Dhun Dhamaka was booked by the channel Doordarshan. It was the same year when she produced her first hit TV serial Hum Paanch.

It was followed by a wave of numerous hit movies namely Krishna Cottage, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, The Dirty Picture, Ek Villain, Half Girlfriend, Dream Girl, etc.
