The much-awaited film Nadaaniyan is now streaming on the OTT platform Netflix. The film marks the debut of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan in Bollywood. Ibrahim Ali Khan is seen opposite Khushi Kapoor. The film also stars Jugal Hansraj, Dia Mirza, Suniel Shetty, and Mahima Chaudhry. It was directed by Shauna Gautam and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under Dharmatic Entertainment. Nadaaniyan is an old-school Bollywood charm, infused with the vibrancy and relatability of Gen Z romance.

The story revolves around Pia Jaisingh, played by Khushi Kapoor. She is studying at Falcon High, Delhi. Her childhood besties, Rhea (Apoorva Mukhija) and Sahira (Aaliyah Qureishi), are giving her the cold shoulder, convinced she is crushing on Ayaan (Dev Agasteya)—who just so happens to be Sahira’s ultimate love interest! To fix the mess, Pia fakes having a boyfriend! And to make it look legit, she promises to introduce him soon. The only problem? She doesn’t have one.

Here comes Arjun Mehta, played by Ibrahim Ali Khan. He is a new student at Falcon High School, who got admission through a scholarship. He is smart, talented, a swimming champion, and of course handsome. Pia offers him Rs 25000 a week to be her fake boyfriend. Arjun, coming from a middle-class background, isn’t exactly rolling in cash. His father, Dr. Sanjay (Jugal Hansraj), and his mother, Nandini (Dia Mirza), a teacher at Falcon High, have raised him with strong values. So, initially, he is hesitant, but the deal is too tempting to refuse. A little lie sparks chaos, feelings, and drama. What happened next form the rest of the film.

Writer Riva Razdan Kapoor has written a fresh take on high school romance. However, the screenplay written by Ishita Moitra, Riva Razdan Kapoor, and Jehan Handa could have been tighter and more convincing. The story is for an elite audience who likes Gen Z stories. The dialogues are engaging but lack depth. Director Shauna Gautam brings a lively, youthful vibe to the film. The first half is good, but the second half takes a dip after the chaos at the Jaisingh house. The subplot in Rajasthan was unnecessary. Pia and Arjun’s chemistry is adorable, and their moments together keep the audience engaged. The songs are beautifully picturized.

Talking about the performances, Ibrahim Ali Khan impresses. He is still raw but looks effortless in romantic scenes. He needs to work in emotional scenes. Khushi Kapoor looked confident but still has lots of room to grow, especially in emotional sequences. Suniel Shetty was brilliant in his role. But his track ended abruptly. Mahima Chaudhry was good. Jugal Hansraj and Dia Mirza were superb in their roles. Archana Puran Singh as Mrs Braganza takes you on a nostalgic ride. Riya Sen is completely wasted. Sachin Jigar’s soundtracks are good. The background score by Tushar Lall fits the film’s tone. Anuj Samtani’s cinematography gives the film a vibrant and elegant touch. The runtime is close to 2 hours, making it an easy watch.

Final Verdict

Overall, Nadaaniyan has its sweet and feel-good moments that will excite the Gen Z audience. The film has its flaws in writing. But Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut, some cute moments, nostalgia, and a fresh pair make Nadaaniyan a binge-worthy watch.
