The trailer of Nayyi Navelli is finally here, and it takes a rather unusual route with its fantasy story. Starring Yami Gautam Dhar as Mohini, the film mixes family drama, humour, mythology and supernatural elements. Set in Meerut, the story begins with the arrival of a newly married woman in the Awasthi family. But Mohini is clearly not an ordinary bahu.
The trailer starts like a quirky family entertainer before slowly revealing its supernatural side. What initially looks like a story about a new daughter-in-law soon turns into something much bigger. There is a mysterious identity, a powerful demon king and a battle that connects the present with Indian mythology.
Nayyi Navelli Trailer
The 3-minute-2-second trailer opens with Mohini entering her in-laws’ house after her marriage. Her brother-in-law immediately decides to test her with a rather unusual comment: “Show us your feet; let’s see if your footprint is straight,” unaware of who he is messing with.
Things soon change inside the Awasthi household. Mohini wins everyone over, and one family member even says, “Mohini has turned our fortunes around.” She also appears to have supernatural abilities, including curing the grandmother’s knee pain with just one touch.
But her brother-in-law remains suspicious. He warns everyone, “All those good things happen in the house. The real bloodbath happens outside.” The trailer then gives us a glimpse of Mohini’s real side.
The family is left shocked as Mohini finds herself facing a much bigger threat. The trailer reveals that a mighty demon king is after her. It then brings Ravana into the picture.
A dialogue explains, “In the Treta Yuga, a demon went to great lengths to gain this power. You must have heard of him: Ravana!” We then hear Ravana say, “This time, I will take your Dussehra from you, and then Ravana will rule over the entire universe.”
This sets up the larger conflict between good and evil. The trailer does not immediately reveal Ravana’s face, keeping some mystery around the character.
Towards the end, someone asks Yami’s character who she really is. Mohini simply smiles and replies, “Woh sab chhodo mummu ji, aap sirf maze lo”. It is a fitting final line for a trailer that clearly wants to keep its world playful even when the stakes become much bigger.
The film also stars Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vasisth, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee and Prateek Pachori. Directed by Balaji Mohan and written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, Nayyi Navelli is scheduled to release on October 16.
Nayyi Navelli Trailer Review
The first thing that makes the Nayyi Navelli trailer stand out is its basic idea. We have seen plenty of stories about mysterious bahus entering traditional families. But here, the makers take that familiar setup and connect it with Indian folklore and mythology.
The Ravana angle is particularly intriguing. Instead of simply using mythology as a backdrop, the trailer appears to build a completely new conflict around the legendary demon king. The idea of Ravana returning with a plan to rule the universe gives the story a much bigger canvas.
What I also like is that the Nayyi Navelli trailer does not explain everything about Mohini. We get to know that she has unusual powers. We see that she is hiding something. We also learn that a powerful force is after her. But her complete identity remains a mystery.
Watch Nayyi Navelli Trailer:
That is important because the question of who Mohini really is could become one of the film’s biggest hooks. The Nayyi Navelli trailer gives us enough clues without answering everything.
The humour also helps keep the trailer from becoming too heavy. Even when the story moves towards a battle between good and evil, the tone remains playful. Mohini’s final dialogue is a perfect example of that approach.
The folklore element is another major attraction. The trailer takes familiar ideas from Indian mythology and gives them a new setting and context. It feels designed as a family entertainer rather than a dark supernatural film.
Visually, the trailer also suggests a colourful fantasy world where the family setting and supernatural elements can exist together. The forest, mythical forces and larger battle all appear to be part of a world that goes beyond the walls of the Awasthi house.
Yami Gautam Dhar’s description of Mohini also fits what the trailer shows. She said,
“What drew me to Mohini is that she is never quite what you expect. There’s a warmth and familiarity to her, but also a mystery that slowly reveals itself. Nayyi Navelli gave me the opportunity to explore a character that moves seamlessly between family, humour, emotion, fantasy and action, while still staying rooted at heart. It was a wonderful experience working with Balaji sir, Aanand sir, Himanshu, the team at Colour Yellow and Amazon MGM Studios. I’m really excited for audiences to meet Mohini this Dussehra and discover her for themselves.”
From A Thursday, Dasvi, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, OMG 2 to Article 370 and Haq, Yami Gautam is winning hearts with her brilliant performances. And it looks like Nayyi Navelli is another feather to her cap.
Verdict
The Nayyi Navelli trailer blends family humour, Indian folklore, mythology and fantasy without revealing its biggest mystery. The Ravana angle gives it an unexpected twist, while Mohini’s identity leaves us with enough questions. Nayyi Navelli is directed by Balaji Mohan and is scheduled to release in theatres on October 16, 2026, during the Dussehra period.
