Due to coronavirus, there is a lockdown in the entire country. The shooting of Bollywood movies and television serials are halted. The backup episodes of all the serials are also telecasted. The television channels have no option except to retelecast their popular and iconic television serials. People demanded on social media to re-run old and popular TV serials on DD National. Doordarshan has started to telecast its popular serials like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Shaktiman, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Circus, Byomkesh Bakshi, etc.
The audiences have showered their love for all the serials especially Ramayan. It has broken all the records of viewership on April 16. Ramayan got 77 million views (7.7 crores views) and became the most-watched entertainment show worldwide. It has also surpassed most popular English sitcoms. One of the popular American television sitcom The Big Bang Theory previously was the highest viewership with around 18 million views on May 16, 2019. Also, TV series Game of Thrones received the viewership of 17.4 million views on its final episode.
