The moment Season 3 of The Great Indian Kapil Show (TGIKS) begins, there’s a comforting sense of familiarity. Kapil Sharma, with his usual charm and quick wit, welcomes viewers into a new setting — this time, Kap’s Café is at an airport. The vibe is still light-hearted and goofy, and honestly, it’s nice to see the gang back together.

But what warms the hearts of long-time fans is the return of Navjot Singh Sidhu. Taking back his iconic chair and showering the audience with his trademark shayaris, Sidhu’s presence instantly makes it feel like the good old Kapil Show days again.

The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 1 Review

Salman Khan himself is the first visitor in the season opening. Kapil starts with punchy monologue-style jokes, teasing Archana Puran Singh and his co-stars, before bringing out Salman.

Next, Sunil Grover arrives dressed as Buddhi, flirting outrageously with Kapil and Salman in a style that’s funny to some, awkward to others. Kiku Sharda, playing the widowed mother of Krushna and Sunil’s characters, joins with his signature silliness, while Krushna Abhishek mimics Shah Rukh Khan with flair.

The episode also spotlights a fan moment: a painter creates Salman Khan’s portrait using his tongue. As strange as it sounds, the moment is surprisingly emotional — Salman is genuinely touched and even signs the artwork on camera.

The great point is when Sunil Grover plays Salman in front of Salman. It’s hilarious. With tears in his eyes, the real Salman bursts into laughter. For a few minutes, the energy on set is gold.

However, several jokes that follow cross into risky territory, including Salman joking about gynecologists, and Krushna’s cross-dressing being ridiculed with gender-based humor. The episode ends with a teaser of the next guests (the cast of Metro…In Dino), closing on a high but leaving a mixed aftertaste.

TGIKS Tries Something New

This season introduces a new interactive element — viewers with unique talents may get featured. In this episode, the tongue-painting artist gets his moment, and though it felt gimmicky at first, it ended up being one of the episode’s most memorable bits. More such heartwarming audience inclusions could be a game-changer for TGIKS.

Having Salman Khan open the season was a smart move. His innate charm and candor about private matters, including playful barbs at Aamir Khan, add interest to the show.

However, the adult humor, especially in front of a star idolized by younger fans, feels out of place. The show is rated UA 13+, but many jokes would leave families squirming. For example, Salman’s remarks about gender, cross-dressing, and sexuality felt unnecessary and poorly timed.

TGIKS Comedy Crew

If there’s one thing TGIKS gets consistently right, it’s the core cast. Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, and Krushna Abhishek work incredibly well together. Whether it’s mimicry, physical comedy, or loud absurdity, they never fail to bring the laughs.

Sunil Grover, especially, steals the show — his confidence, comic control, and Salman impersonation are proof that he’s still one of the best in the business. Kapil, too, remains a strong anchor, tying the chaos together with effortless ease.

TGIKS Writing Needs A Refresh

While the performances are solid, the writing lets the show down. The jokes about Archana Puran Singh’s laugh, or Kapil and Sidhu’s need for female attention, feel tired and outdated.

The mimicry of Bollywood stars (Salman, Shah Rukh, Ajay Devgn) was fun but over-extended. Instead, tighter scripts and more meaningful interactions with guests would elevate the content. Netflix’s bigger budget should be used to hire fresher, sharper writers.

The premiere of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3 brings a mix of laughter, nostalgia, and awkward moments. Salman Khan brings the star value, the cast brings the fun, but the adult jokes and lazy writing pull it down at some point. If you’re watching alone or with friends who don’t mind edgy humor, this episode may work for you. But if you were hoping for a cozy, family-style comedy night, consider skipping this one.

What did you think of TGIKS Season 3’s grand opening? Did Salman’s jokes leave you chuckling or cringing? Is Sidhu’s comeback a hit for you?
