What if a spy forgot his real identity and started hunting down the very people he once worked with? That is the bizarre situation at the heart of Udta Teer, the spy comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Suhail Nayyar, and the late Mukul Dev.
Directed by Aakash Kaushik, the film follows a Pakistani agent whose memory loss turns his mission upside down. As he begins believing he is an Indian intelligence officer, the truth about his identity becomes increasingly complicated. But does he recover his memory? And is he really a Pakistani spy? Let’s break down the Udta Teer ending.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers from Udta Teer, including the climax and the revelation about Vikrant’s true identity.
Why Does Vikrant Lose His Memory In Udta Teer?
Ayushmann Khurrana plays Vikrant, an officer working for an Indian intelligence agency called CTS. His assignment is to track down Pakistani terrorists operating in India. However, his identity is not what it appears to be. Vikrant is actually Bilal, a Pakistani agent who has infiltrated the Indian intelligence system. His colleague Dhruv, played by Suhail Nayyar, is also working undercover for Pakistan under the name Ashfaque.
Their mission takes a disastrous turn when Bilal and Ashfaque attempt to silence CTS chief Burman during a confrontation inside their car. Burman ends up in a vegetative state, while Bilal suffers memory loss. After the accident, Bilal forgets his Pakistani identity and genuinely believes he is Vikrant, a patriotic Indian intelligence officer. Unaware of his past, he begins investigating the very network he previously served.
His memory loss creates confusion for both sides. Dhruv tries to manage the situation, while Vikrant’s investigation brings him closer to Azhar Maksood, played by the late Mukul Dev.
Does Ayushmann Khurrana Regain His Memory?
Yes, Bilal eventually regains his memory, but the circumstances surrounding the revelation are tragic. While investigating the intelligence leaks, Yamini discovers that someone inside the Defence Ministry is passing sensitive information to Pakistan. Her own boss, played by Brijendra Kala, is involved and informs Ashfaq about her investigation.
Ashfaq attacks Yamini after learning that she is getting too close to the truth. Bilal, who still believes himself to be Vikrant, fights back against his friend. When he stabs Ashfaque, the violent confrontation triggers the return of his memories. Bilal finally remembers who he was and the mission he had been carrying out. However, recovering his memory does not resolve the biggest question surrounding his identity. His past as a Pakistani agent is only one part of a much larger secret.
Is Bilal Actually Indian Or Pakistani?
The film’s biggest twist comes when Bilal reconnects with Imam, who reveals a secret about his past. Bilal had been working for Pakistan, believing that he belonged to that side. But his real identity is very different. He is actually the son of Indian agents who were killed by Niyazi.
This revelation changes the meaning of Bilal’s entire journey. Although he was raised and trained as a Pakistani agent, his family background connects him to India. His identity is not defined by the assignment he has been carrying out. The truth also explains why Bilal ultimately chooses to deceive Niyazi rather than remain loyal to the Pakistani operation.
How Does Bilal Fool Niyazi?
After recovering his memories, Bilal contacts Niyazi and promises to send him the list of Indian spies operating inside Pakistan. Niyazi receives the list and orders the execution of the people identified in it. However, he soon discovers that the supposed Indian spies are actually Pakistani agents being trained for infiltration missions in India.
Bilal has deliberately tricked him. By turning the operation against its own people, he exposes Niyazi’s network and undermines the mission he was originally assigned to support. Niyazi realises that Bilal has betrayed him. Bilal is eventually sent to jail, where he explains his plan to his senior, Holkar, played by Smita Tambe. The deception is central to the climax. Bilal uses the trust placed in him to bring down the operation from within, turning his former mission into a trap for Niyazi.
Udta Teer Movie Ending Explained
The final reveal confirms that Bilal is the son of Indian agents killed by Niyazi. He may have spent his life serving Pakistan, but his true family background is Indian. Bilal visits Niyazi after sending him to jail, bringing the conflict between the two men to a personal conclusion. The revelation gives Bilal another reason to turn against the man responsible for his parents’ deaths.
Meanwhile, Vikrant reunites with Yamini, who is pregnant with their first child. The two resolve their differences and decide to begin a new chapter together. The film ends with Vikrant standing at the Pakistani agency’s office, leaving his future open to interpretation.
What Does The Udta Teer Ending Mean?
The ending brings Bilal’s identity crisis full circle. He begins the story believing he is Vikrant, discovers that he is Bilal, and eventually learns that even his understanding of his own nationality is incomplete. His memory loss initially turns him into an unwitting opponent of his former allies. Once his memories return, he has to confront the truth about his past and make a choice about where his loyalty belongs.
By deceiving Niyazi and exposing the operation, Bilal finally acts against the people he once served. His reunion with Yamini also offers hope that he can move beyond the deception and violence that have shaped his life. Ultimately, Udta Teer ends with Bilal’s real identity revealed, Niyazi defeated, and Vikrant and Yamini preparing for a fresh start. The final shot, however, leaves room for questions about what lies ahead for Vikrant.
