Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Shaneil Deo, brings together Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur in a story that blends love, betrayal, and revenge with action. Written by Shaneil Deo and Adivi Sesh, the film also stars Prakash Raj, Anurag Kashyap, Atul Kulkarni, and Zayn Marie Khan in key roles. With a runtime of 2 hours 32 minutes, the film aims to deliver both emotional depth and high-stakes drama.
Adivi Sesh has built a strong reputation for choosing intense and rooted stories. After a gap of four years, expectations were naturally high from Dacoit. The film does not try to reinvent the genre, but it focuses on telling a familiar story with emotional weight and layered characters.
Dacoit Story

The story revolves around Haridas, also known as Hari, played by Adivi Sesh. He has spent 13 years in prison after being convicted in a murder case. During the COVID period, while being shifted from Kadapa Central Jail, he escapes with the help of his friend Ishaq, played by Atul Kulkarni.
Hari has a clear plan. He wants to escape to Dubai and start a new life. But for that, he needs Rs 60 lakh. Before leaving, he wants revenge. He believes that his former lover Saraswathi, also known as Juliet, played by Mrunal Thakur, is responsible for sending him to jail.
When he meets her after years, things are not the same. Saraswathi is now married and has a young daughter. Her husband Bhaskar is critically ill and needs a heart transplant. She is struggling to arrange money, moving between the hospital and her home.
Hari sees this as an opportunity. He plans a heist and pulls Saraswathi into it as the driver. His intention is clear. He wants money for himself and also wants to frame her as part of his revenge.
Meanwhile, CI Swami, played by Anurag Kashyap, along with his daughter, who is also a cop, is on the hunt for Hari. At the same time, Prakash Raj’s character, who runs a hospital and exploits patients during the COVID crisis, becomes a key part of the narrative.
As the story unfolds, Hari’s plan begins to change. Emotions come into play. Relationships get complicated. And what starts as revenge slowly turns into something deeper.
Dacoit Movie Review

The biggest strength of Dacoit lies in how it handles a familiar story. Writers Shaneil Deo and Adivi Sesh understand that the core plot is not entirely new. Instead of trying to disguise it, they focus on adding emotional depth.
The first half of Dacoit works very well. It builds the relationship between Hari and Saraswathi in a grounded manner. Their love story feels real. It does not feel forced. When things fall apart, the pain feels justified. The emotional setup is strong, and it helps the audience connect with the characters.
The second half shifts gears. The narrative becomes more driven by action and plot. The chase sequences are sharp and engaging. There is a clear effort to maintain scale. At the same time, the film does not lose its emotional core completely. That balance works in its favor.
However, Dacoit does slow down in parts. The runtime feels slightly stretched, especially in the second half. Some scenes could have been tighter. The twists work, but a few of them feel predictable.

Technically, the film is solid. Cinematographer Dhanush Bhaskar gives the film a polished and rich look. The visuals are sharp and well-composed. The rugged setting adds authenticity.
Gyaani’s background score is one of the major highlights. It elevates the emotional scenes and adds intensity to the action sequences. The music supports the narrative well without overpowering it.
The editing is decent, but trimming a few sequences could have made the film more engaging. The production quality is impressive, giving the film a pan-India appeal.
Dacoit Performances

Adivi Sesh once again proves why he is one of the most reliable actors in this space. Playing a grey character is not easy, but he handles it with confidence. His performance feels raw and controlled. He carries the emotional weight of the film effectively. By the end, you understand his pain, even if you do not fully agree with his actions.
Mrunal Thakur delivers a strong performance in Dacoit. She is not just there for the sake of the story. Her character has depth, and she brings it out beautifully. From being vulnerable to becoming strong and fearless, her journey stands out. In many ways, she acts as the emotional anchor of the film.
Anurag Kashyap is a pleasant surprise. He brings a certain intensity to his role as a cop. His performance is subtle but impactful. He does not try to dominate the screen, yet he leaves a mark.
Prakash Raj’s character had potential, but it is not explored fully. The same goes for Sunil and Atul Kulkarni. They are good in their roles, but the script does not give them enough to do. Zayn Marie Khan adds freshness to the narrative, and her presence works well within the story.
Final Verdict

Dacoit is a film that works because of its emotional core and strong performances. It may follow a familiar path, but it manages to keep the audience engaged with its storytelling and character arcs. Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur deliver solid performances that hold the film together. The action sequences are engaging, and the technical aspects support the narrative well. At its heart, Dacoit is more than just a revenge drama. It is a story about love, choices, and consequences. It leaves an impact, even if it does not reach perfection.
