The best part of the film is even though it covers many events during the Emergency period, it does not feel rushed. The way the film captures the intense showdowns and the story behind how the Emergency shaped the lives of individuals, oppositions, activists, and other political figures is simply outstanding.

Films that are based on historical events depend heavily on performance. Needless to say, with such splendid star casts, Emergency has some terrific performances. Kangana Ranaut has delivered one of her career-best performances with Emergency. Kangana known for her bold and fearless approach, got into the skin of Indira Gandhi with ease. The way she carried Indira Gandhi’s persona, aura, body language, and dialogue delivery is speechless. Not only this, she perfectly encapsulates the emotional complexities of Indira Gandhi. She will be the front-runner for the National Award with this one.

Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee shines in the role. His dialogue delivery is amazing, needless to say, why he is also one of the greatest dubbing artists in India. The veteran actor Anupam Kher as leading opposition figure Jayaprakash Narayan excels with his acting and performance.

The talented Milind Soman fits into the character of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and plays his part nicely. It is delightful to see Mahima Chaudhry after a long. She portrays the role of Gandhi’s confidante Pupul Jayakar with utmost sincerity. Also, the late actor Satish Kaushik as former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram played his part well. Vishak Nair delivers a noteworthy performance and fits in the role of Sanjay Gandhi.

The cinematography of Tetsuo Nagata is good. He captured the essence of 1970s India meticulously. It makes the era of the 70s alive. The gritty and immersive visuals make Emergency a cinematic masterpiece. The music of the film is good with songs like Sarkar Ko Salaam Hai and Singhasan Khali Karo intensifying the environment. Also, the background music enriches the film’s atmosphere. The powerful dialogues from Ritesh Shah and Tanvi Kesari Pasumarthy fit perfectly well in the film. The first half of the film is good with a proper build-up. Some scenes may seem a little stretched but can be ignored. The second half is powerful and is brilliantly executed.
