Traditionally, the winning country of Eurovision is given the honor of hosting the following year’s competition. Kalush Orchestra, a Ukrainian folk-rap band, won the competition in 2022. However, Ukraine was unable to organize the 2023 tournament due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

As a result, the United Kingdom, which finished second last year, agreed to host the competition on Ukraine’s behalf. They pledged to showcase Ukraine’s diverse culture and perseverance during the event. This year’s Eurovision is the first time the competition has been held in the United Kingdom in 25 years.
