If you love thrillers that aren’t just about chases and action but dig deep into family drama and emotions, Kankhajura on Sony LIV should be on your watchlist. This series, directed by Chandan Arora, stars Roshan Mathew and Mohit Raina in some of their best work yet. With a strong supporting cast including Sarah Jane Dias, Trinetra Haldar, and seasoned actors like Usha Nadkarni, the show takes you on a slow, emotional ride through pain, guilt, and hidden secrets.

Kankhajura Story

The story starts with Ashu (Roshan Mathew) coming out of prison after spending 14 years behind bars. But freedom isn’t simple for him — he’s caught between his past mistakes and the demands of the police, who make him work as an informant.

Ashu heads back to his hometown in Goa, hoping for a fresh start, but the past has other plans. His brother Max (Mohit Raina), a real estate baron, isn’t exactly waiting with open arms. Their relationship is full of tension, hurt, and unspoken feelings. Ashu finds himself rejected and isolated.

What makes Kankhajura different is how it shows the real, messy side of people — the guilt they carry, the secrets they hide, and the ties that bind them even when everything else falls apart. And all this drama plays out against the beautiful, peaceful backdrop of Goa, making the story’s darkness feel even stronger.

This isn’t your typical fast-paced thriller. Adapted from the acclaimed Israeli series, Magpie, Kankhajura takes its time, slowly building the story and letting you soak in the mood. The 8-episode series, with around 40 minutes each episode, has stunning shots of Goa, with its quiet streets and calm beaches, creating a striking contrast to the emotional storm raging in the characters’ lives.

At times, the story may feel a little familiar if you’ve watched a lot of crime dramas. But the real power lies in how it explores the characters’ feelings and relationships, which many shows tend to overlook. The writing is good, though some side characters could have been given more depth.

The director, Chandan Arora, keeps the story steady and lets everything unfold naturally. This style works well if you like shows that make you think and feel, instead of just thrilling you with twists.

Kankhajura Series Performance

Roshan Mathew steals the show with his quiet, intense performance as Ashu. You can feel the weight of 14 years in prison in every look and gesture. It’s a subtle but powerful portrayal of a man trying to find his place again. Mohit Raina is excellent as Max, the stern brother with a lot on his shoulders. The tension and chemistry between Roshan and Mohit feel so real that you get drawn into their complicated relationship.

The supporting actors also do a good job. Sarah Jane Dias and Trinetra Haldar add nice details to their roles, while experienced actor Usha Nadkarni adds a lot of emotional weight to the family scenes. The director gives the actors plenty of room to breathe, making their characters feel real and relatable. This helps the slower pace feel deliberate and meaningful rather than dragging.

Kankhajura is not for everyone. If you’re looking for fast action and many surprises, this show might not be for you. But if you like stories that explore deep emotions, family ties, and moral questions, you will enjoy it. With strong acting, a haunting mood, and a story that goes beneath the surface, Kankhajura is a thoughtful and gripping watch. It’s the kind of show that stays with you even after you finish it.
