Ranveer Singh is finally back in cinemas after two long years, and the excitement around Dhurandhar has reached an all-time high. But it isn’t just the comeback that has people talking. The film has achieved a rare feat — something Bollywood hasn’t seen in nearly two decades.
Dhurandhar has officially become the longest Bollywood release in 17 years, surpassing massive historical dramas and action epics. The minute this news broke, expectations skyrocketed, as viewers now anticipate an immersive, large-canvas experience.
Let’s break down everything happening around this ambitious project — its runtime, CBFC modifications, legal challenges, and the star-studded ensemble backing Ranveer Singh.
Dhurandhar Creates History With Its Runtime

One of the biggest talking points has been its 214-minute runtime, which translates to 3 hours and 34 minutes. This makes Dhurandhar the longest mainstream Hindi film since Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar, which ran for 3 hours and 33 minutes back in 2008.
In today’s era of shorter films and tight editing, an almost three-and-a-half-hour runtime signals the makers’ intention to deliver a grand cinematic experience. It also shows confidence in the narrative’s depth, visual scale, and emotional strength.
CBFC Clears The Film With An ‘A’ Certificate

Dhurandhar recently received its certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Interestingly, this marks the first ‘A’ certificate film of Ranveer Singh’s career.
The CBFC confirmed that the film required several modifications before approval. In their official statement, they noted that:
“Several modifications and excisions (cuts and replacements) were carried out by the applicant (producer) to comply with the law in force and the CBFC’s requirements.”
Despite these changes, the board clarified that the runtime remained untouched. These modifications included:
- Replacement of opening visuals considered excessively violent.
- Removal of certain intense shots in the second half.
- Alteration of a character’s name.
- Muting of a cuss word.
- Inclusion of anti-drug disclaimers wherever necessary.
All of this collectively shaped the film’s final version while ensuring it met certification guidelines.
Legal Challenge: The Delhi High Court Episode

Just when the film was nearing certification, it hit a legal roadblock. The parents of late Major Mohit Sharma approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release, stating that the film resembled their son’s life and was being made without permission from the family or the Indian Army.
Director Aditya Dhar responded to the allegations on X, clearly stating that the film was fictional. He wrote that the team would have sought permission had it been based on a real individual.
Following this, the CBFC conducted a comprehensive reassessment.
The board then reaffirmed its decision, certifying Dhurandhar as:
“a work of fiction” that bears “no direct or indirect resemblance” to Major Sharma’s life.
They also ruled that the film did not require further scrutiny from the Army. This lifted the final obstacle and paved the way for the film’s scheduled December 5 theatrical release.
A Massive Ensemble Supporting Ranveer Singh

While Ranveer Singh leads the film, Dhurandhar boasts a powerful supporting cast. The ensemble includes some of the most respected names in Indian cinema:
- Sanjay Dutt
- Akshaye Khanna
- R. Madhavan
- Arjun Rampal
- Sara Arjun
- Rakesh Bedi
This combination of personalities suggests that the film isn’t just long — it is likely layered, character-driven, and filled with intense performances.
With a monumental runtime, an ‘A’ certificate, a legal battle, and a powerhouse cast, Dhurandhar is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about Hindi films of the decade.
Ranveer Singh’s return after two years, combined with Aditya Dhar’s signature scale of storytelling, has created a buzz that’s hard to ignore. As the film gears up for its release, all eyes are now on whether it lives up to the expectations set by this historic milestone.
One thing is certain — Bollywood hasn’t seen a film of this length, ambition, and energy in a very long time.
