With the UEFA European Championships finally out of the way, a year late, it is time once again for football supporters and fans who like to have a bet on the games at a kaszinó to start focusing on the upcoming season. What is exciting about this year is that it looks as if stadiums will be back at full capacity, which means match days out will be a thing again.

At the time of writing, Patrick Viera had just made his fourth signing for the new season, and it looks like a pretty good team on paper. Whether these new players will gel together with the current batch remains to be seen, and how Viera handles the Premier League from the dugout is also debatable. However, there is some positivity for the future, and many fans will be hungry to get back to Selhurst Park.

Although, Palace’s fan base is more local than some clubs, looking at you Man. Utd., there are still some fans from further away. Individuals who have moved out of London, or even abroad. Then there are foreign supporters who have taken a shine to Palace and of course the away fans.

Some of these may travel some way to get to see the game, and knowing where to stay and what to do can make match day an even more enjoyable time. If you are heading off to Selhurst for the first time in the new season, then here are a few tips.

Where To Stay For The Game

Like many football grounds in England, don’t expect there to be much appeal too close to the actual venue. For a pint before or after the game and to discuss if the relegation talk is fair or not, The Clifton Arms is the closest pub, or of course, you could visit The Holmesdale a bit further away.

When it comes to sleeping, you have plenty of choices. A nice hotel room can provide comfort, help you relax, and make the time pass easier if you have company. Thanks to Transport for London, there is no need to find a hotel right on the doorstep of the stadium, but fortunately, there is no need to be miles away either.

For those wanting to be close by there is the Jurys Inn which is just 1.5 miles away from the ground in Croydon. A little further out there is The Bromley Court Hotel, and the slightly more expensive The Half Moon, which are both around 4 miles away.

Alternatively, there is the Pestana Chelsea Bridge at a similar price to The Half Moon, which is by Battersea Park and close to the Thames. This is less than twenty minutes to Selhurst Park by taxi, and 40 minutes by train.

Nightlife After The Game

The famous Crystals Nightclub located at Selhurst closed down a few years back and relocated. It is now in Lewisham Way for anyone who wants to see what all the fuss is about.

The Eagles are now sponsored by W88. With Zaha once again wanting to go, you might want to log in to an online casino like W88 and place a bet on him going. Sadly, for fans of casino games, there is no real gaming establishment in the vicinity. However, anyone who opted to stay a bit more central has many options.

Maxims Casino on Cromwell Gate, and the Cromwell Mint on Cromwell Road, will serve you well if you decide to stay near Kensington or Chelsea. Alternatively, plan ahead and book tickets to a West End show and make a full day of entertainment with the game and some theatre.

Although the nightlife in the area may not include casinos, there are plenty of options to play slots, such as at the Merkur Cashino, however, there are far more stylish places close by that you might enjoy more.

Activities For The Day After The Game

Depending on how far you have to travel home, you may be able to enjoy another day in town. Of course, London has many attractions that would take years of visiting to work through, but there is one or two closer to Selhurst.

If it was a weekday match that you were attending, then you might want to return to the grounds the next day for a stadium tour. See the changing rooms, learn about the club, and discuss with the tour guide whether this really is the time to cash in Zaha before it’s too late.

Or, try a cookery course. This may sound left-field, but Yuki’s Kitchen is only 1 mile away from Selhurst Park. A tour could leave you a bit peckish, so what better way to follow it than to learn how to make Japanese food that you can enjoy after?

Yuki’s Kitchen cookery classes are not only nearby Selhurst, but they have held a score of 5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor after nearly 200 reviews.

Family Events

Fortunately, London is packed with places to go. So if you took the youngsters with you, central London has plenty to offer.

Museums, art galleries, walking down the Southbank, and London Aquarium, are all options for a Sunday out in London. For any art lover, there is a gallery a stone’s throw away from the stadium too.

At about ten minutes’ walk away, it is a bit more than a stone’s throw, but the Amina Malik Gallery might be the thing if you are interested in contemporary, emerging artists.

Or, you could just go full tourist and take an open-top (hop on and off) bus around the sights. Maybe not a bad option if you are traveling from far away and London is a novelty.

Summary

Selhurst Park will hopefully be seeing good crowds, and plenty of wins this upcoming season. Patrick Viera has a winning mentality that is to be hoped will get passed on to the players. The club, while unable to compete with the likes of the Manchester teams, can hope for more than relegation.

There is positivity at the club that includes areas that some fans may not have noticed. Although there is criticism of clubs using casinos and betting firms for sponsorship. Crystal Palace has become the first EPL club to link up with Gamstop to help battle problem gambling.

If you visit Selhurst next season, hopefully, you will witness some great action on the pitch, and then enjoy what the nearby areas have to offer after the game.
