When the Saiyaara teaser came out, it instantly gave fans that classic Aashiqui energy. Moody visuals, intense romance, soul-stirring music—people were calling it Aashiqui 3 without a second thought. Now, director Mohit Suri has confirmed that everyone’s gut feeling was right all along. Speaking to sources, he shared:
“They had pitched me to come up with a draft for Aashiqui 3 in the beginning. At that time, Mukesh ji and Bhushan were on better terms.”
Saiyaara Was Born From Aashiqui 3

Mohit began working on a heartfelt story for what would have been the third Aashiqui film. But then, things got rushed, particularly on the production side.
“I know, they have a very sensitive relationship. They are friends at times, and then they are not. So, I thought of this idea for Aashiqui 3, which is now Saiyaara. But they were in a hurry and wanted to announce, which is something I was not comfortable with.”
Being someone who prefers the script to come first and the noise later, Mohit pulled back. He didn’t want to commit to something that wasn’t emotionally or creatively ready.
“I prefer having a script first and then make an announcement. But to sum it up, yes, this idea was originally for Aashiqui 3.”
So he kept the story close to his heart and decided to let it grow into something else. That “something else” became Saiyaara.
Why Saiyaara Got Its Own Identity

Rather than sticking to a big brand name just for the sake of buzz, Mohit chose creative freedom. Letting go of the Aashiqui tag gave him room to shape the story in his own time, without the pressure of living up to the franchise name.
And honestly, that seems to have worked in the film’s favor.
Luv Ranjan And The Romantics Sparked

Interestingly, Mohit wasn’t entirely sure he’d go through with writing the full script until someone gave him the push—filmmaker Luv Ranjan.
“He motivated me to write this script, and then, simultaneously, I saw some action films not doing as well as expected. Then I saw The Romantics, it spoke about the similar times that existed in the 80s. Then I developed that idea into a screenplay completely.”
It was a combination of encouragement and nostalgia. Watching The Romantics on Netflix (which dives into the YRF legacy) reminded Mohit of why he fell in love with cinema in the first place. That emotional hit made him pick up the pen again.
Soon after, Yash Raj Films came on board as producers, marking Mohit’s first collaboration with them, and Saiyaara officially became a reality.
Saiyaara Marks A Fresh Start For Newcomers

Another exciting piece? Saiyaara features Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda—two fresh faces making their Bollywood debut.
In a world where so many romantic dramas rely on star power, launching a film like this with new talent feels bold and refreshing. Backed by YRF and directed by someone like Mohit, it definitely adds more curiosity and charm to the release.
Mohit Rewrote Saiyaara’s Destiny

There’s actually a bit of history repeating itself here. Mohit also shared that Aashiqui 2 was never originally intended to be part of the franchise either.
“Aashiqui 2 was also not written as Aashiqui 2. I was dying to make a love story after Murder 2. It was first supposed to have big stars, then Emraan Hashmi, but nobody wanted to do a love story with Vishesh at that time, including my brother and hero of the company, Emraan.”
When Bhushan Kumar suggested turning it into Aashiqui 2, things changed.
“Bhushan came to me and said why don’t you spin this script into Aashiqui 2. And then, Mukesh ji gave me a deal of having a higher budget with the title Aashiqui. So I agreed, and made the film.”
That film ended up being a massive success, giving a boost to Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor’s careers, and delivering one of Bollywood’s most memorable love story albums.
Could Saiyaara Be The Next Big Love Story?

Let’s be real—we haven’t had a gut-punching, music-heavy romantic drama in a while. That genre’s been quiet. And if anyone knows how to bring the pain, the poetry, and the passion, it’s Mohit Suri.
With its emotional backstory, new faces, and a director who’s putting his heart into it, Saiyaara feels like it could hit the right notes. The film is set to release on July 18, 2025, and from the buzz so far, people are already waiting with their playlists ready. The song ‘Barbaad’ is already a chartbuster, and I am listening to it on a loop.
Final Thought

Sure, it could’ve been Aashiqui 3. But maybe Saiyaara was meant to stand on its own. No legacy tag, no franchise pressure—just a new story, told the way it deserves to be.
And sometimes, that’s what makes a film even more special.
The film releases on July 18, 2025. Mark your calendars. Or better—keep your tissues ready.
